In a lot of ways it was a blessing that I stumbled into the Sonar game when I did. Because I had been working with an old and completely different DAW I basically had to approach it as a "complete beginner". I had absolutely zero preconceived notions about what Sonar was or what it should be. Total clean slate.

I think anyone coming from pre X-Series would probably have a much easier time if they considered it a totally new DAW, learned it as such and kicked any previous concepts out the window. Then when similarities arise it just makes re-learning those parts easier but when the many differences pop up they don't waste time trying to bend them to the old methods.

The tutorials at the start of the manual take a couple hours to work through and are enough to get up to speed on everything one needs to get to work.

Well then you're clueless about what you're missing out on. And addressing me like i'm some amateur complaining because he's not doing his homework just shows further you have no idea what I am talking about. Maybe someone who used layers PROFOUNDLY and knows it deeply could share his experience from layers to lane? anyone? Btw I tried your method from 2 messages ago, no man it's not efficient, too much management, I just don't have time for detours it needs to be quick and immediate

This is the real X3 review warts and all. Audiosnap and drum maps need major improvement. Video capability is basic.

Here are the bugs which Cake, Cake I'm sure is active in fixing them:
http://forum.cakewalk.com...aspx?m=3009969&p=1

All DAW's have bugs. Compared it to other DAW's, even older ones, it's the best DAW on the market.

However if you are stuck in your ways stick with 8. Or do some reading. Doesn't seem much point in trying to convince you any further.. It takes a while for some people to get it (and like I said it took me a while with comping).

Then use 8.5. You could have very easily tried the demo before purchasing and learned about this stuff beforehand.

It really does not seem to me like you "wanna love X3". It seems like you want to complain about minutia and buck any kind of minor change. I used layers extensively in X1. I used one "lane" editing in my previous DAW. They were both far more cumbersome than X3's methods.

However I have said multiple times on the forum that I would like to see some form of parent track priority style editing options (particularly how my old DAW worked... which is right clicking on a section and choosing which clip should be on top from a list). But it is merely an unnecessary extra option that is highly specific and outdated workflow and merely serves as a minor space saver and to add some nostalgia to the program.

You aren't going to convince the Bakers to go back in time. There is no need to and 95%+ of us do not want them to. Sorry but that's just how it is.

I eagerly await tomorrows new handle.

Good day, sir.

yes 95% of forum people do not want them, but don't think 100% of cake's forum people represent 100% of cakewalk's user base. You guys are the loud minority papi :/

And of course I have to keep using 8.5! So far It's still infinitly faster to get things moving, why would I slowdown my pace when creating.

anyway, if anyone can share a serious video about how they get their groove going fast using lanes, I would still love to give it a serious look!

p.s If I was stuck in my ways cakealex I would not ask to be shown by experienced x3 users how to super-operate lanes! but all
i'm finding on youtube and in articles is people doing basic comping.

thanx

Um... With unlimited tracks I am confused as to why not fix, duplicate, experiment with tracks in the same folder?

I always raise an eyebrow when people are too busy to use workarounds, but not too busy to spend days online arguing about not using them.

When X3 first came out there were a lot of complaints about comping and what was lost with layers. However, over time most people understood that they lost about 20% of what layers could do in order to have comping that was 150% better. Take Lanes can still do most of what layers could do, as detailed in my Sound on Sound article, and you can always record your comps then drag them into standard tracks if you want the full array of track editing features, which is even more flexible than layers.
