You don't even have to "Save as" to a different directory, just strip out the audio tracks and "Save as" in the current project directory under a different project name.

Is it worth bouncing up to a higher sample rate like this and bringing it back into the 44.1 project? I've heard a few A/B comparisons of synths upsampled like this and in some cases I don't notice a difference, in other cases I do.

No, exporting a 44.1 project at a higher sample rate won't help. Its not the same thing as converting the entire project to a higher sample rate. All that will do is upsample the FINAL 44.1 output. If you have a synth only project however (no audio tracks with audio clips), in that scenario if you set the default sample rate to 96, the current project will switch automatically to the higher sample rate.
If there are audio clips in the project this doesn't happen automatically since every clip would have to be resampled.

Ok thanks. I had wondered if maybe exporting a synth track at a higher sample rate would actually upsample the synth but evidently not. It is good to know I can upsample a synth only track with one click though. I guess when I tried that in the past, I must have always had at least one clip of audio in the project so it didn't work.

So far I'm very happy with it. The sound is outstanding and the TotalMix software is very well designed. My only gripes with it have to do with it being a "portable" device (the breakout cable is a little messy, and it's a little less convenient to switch between modes and use a shared jog wheel for my headphones/monitor levels than it was to have separate controls on my old interface), but I knew that going in. I bought it for the reportedly rock solid drivers and quality preamps. It's a beautiful little device. 

Sharke, I totally agree with you. I'm held back from doing lots of mobile recording in Linux because it's hard to control my UCX without TotalMix. I love the idea, but I really must have TotalMix, so I use Windows.
 
My UCX also has FX processing internal (I'm thinking the BabyFace may not). That is so cool, to be able to EQ and Compress every channel separately as well as use Reverb and never leave the device. The latency is amazingly low that way. I don't dare guess how low.
 
Really the latency introduced by the device is getting in and out of the OS, not the conversion itself. At least for the RME. The actual conversion to digital and back has really no audible latency that I can hear. (Again, I'm talking about staying in the RME Device and going directly out, without going through the computer - once the computer is introduced, all the usual latency stuff appears).
 
BTW, Sharke, have you installed DigiCheck? It's an absolute must have. Check it out!! You can record with it too!

I don't know about Digicheck, I'll have to look into it. I'm not sure what you mean by internal FX processing - TotalMix has EQ, delay and reverb on all channels though.
 
The main difficulty I've had in making the switch so far has been getting Virtual Audio Cable and Pedalboard2 up and running so that I can route all system audio through ARC2. It was really easy with my last interface but for some reason it's gotten a little more complicated with the RME and doesn't work the same. My head's kind of spinning with it at the minute. 

You can set loopback on any channel, so that may be of some help. I don't think you can loopback midi though. I do that with a physical cable.
