  • How do I Pan the Left and Right Stereo Channels separately?

Basic question. How do I separate the channels so I pan the left channel far left and the right channel far right.
I want to create a wide stereo effect off of one file? (Usually it would be 2 mics but I'm just interested in experimenting)

Use the Channel Tools plug-in or bounce the track using "Split Mono" Channel format or send each channel to a separate bus.

Are you talking about making a mono file sound stereo? If so, you won't get far with just panning, but there are things you can do, for instance apply a short delay on one side (20-30ms), and/or EQ or otherwise process each side differently. The aim is to create differences between both sides, this is your "side" information. Just clone the mono track onto a new track, pan each to opposite sides and apply your processing of choice.

I'm assuming you're starting with a stereo track? In that case, the Channel Tools plug-in lets you place each channel anywhere in the stereo field. However, if they have audio in common, you won't hear a dramatic separation as the common audio will establish a strong center. To get additional separation you would need to use delays, phase changes, or equalization.

I just demonstrated the dangers of taking longer to write a post than the time it takes for other people to answer it...

Yes it's a stereo track. Also is there any way to keep that nice equalizer that comes with producer from being pinned to the side of a track/bus?
It's the EQ I'm most comfortable with and not the plug-in EQs that come with Sonar X3 Producer, I like my stuff fun and color coded.
