I'll keep it simple. I have an Edirol UA 101, as does a project studio where I'd like to do some additional tracking. Is it possible to use both interfaces so that we have 16 analog channels? Would we have to use WDM or ASIO or is there a way to sync the two since they're both the same unit. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about WDM - with MME you can use two different units at the same time.

ASIO drivers only allow one instance of a driver, but some manufacturers write their ASIO drivers so that two of the same units can be used at the same time. For example, I can run two Layla3G units (for 16 channels) using ASIO on my mobile DAW. As far as your UA101, you can either ask Roland, ask in a users group, or, since you have a second unit available, just give it a try.

I think we're going to just give it the old college try. But I will scout around on gear slutz forums, there's always a way to get info there.

Multiple interfaces from the same manufacturer can be used as a single unit if the said manufacturer enables it in ASIO.  TC Electronic does across their line, as do some of Roland models.  Check the websites and manuals - that should tell you.

My 2 Studio-Captures work with ASIO in some programs. In other programs, they only see the 1st SC in the chain. I haven't tried using MME to see if they recognize both.

I was able to use a Tascam US1800 with a Delta 1010 using MME drivers to record 16 channels live. I don't remember why I didn't try WDM, but MME worked fine since latency wasn't a concern.

Here's an article I wrote on aggregating interfaces in Windows and Mac.
