The following are experiments i have done over but have no solution except to just re-load the track icons.

This is very helpful and I have passed it along to the appropriate person at Cakewalk. Fingers crossed!

Over the years I've had this problem as well. It happened a lot, and I learned to either ignore them or to reimport the icon for a track that was bothering me.

I did move to a much better PC, well a laptop, a year or more ago. I don't recall now when the last time I saw this occurred. Maybe I haven't seen it since my machine upgrade. Anyway, I'll watch for it again.

When it happens it sure is annoying. But it seemed for me when it did that it was not easily solveable.

In some of my projects icons get pixelated multiple times when loading project. This confirms keyzs's comment that [pixelated] icons are saved in the project file.  It's odd but in a problematic project file some icons always remain intact while the others always get pixelated over and over again.

I think Keith was asking for particulars on which specific icons were getting messed up - and possibly when it happens, in case anyone has that info.  (perhaps there IS something internal he can look at, given enough information).

Okay, but I already said I didn't think it was the graphics card because we have the same graphics card and I don't have problems.

That is just an assumption. The chances of everybody being on the same driver versions are extremely slim as a new one comes out every 5 minutes usually.

Nobody here has once confirmed that they are on the very latest display drivers, pretty please rule it out one way or the other. As I said the behaviour is classic example of corrupted display memory (do people remember black icons in Windows 3.x?).

Of course it could be a Sonar issue (from the further info we have received it could be a display caching issue, again this could be drivers) but for heaven sake, whoever is experiencing this please rule this out.

Thanks...

I only use drum icons and guitar icons mostly, and just do not see the issue on my system.  I am sorry I have no idea how to help figure this out.

THANKS for the pics - it is SO weird to happen to some icons and not to others.

I downloaded all the latest Windows 7 updates for an unrelated issue about 3 weeks ago. So I think that means my drivers are up to date.

My Windows setting is set to best performance - with no “eye candy”.

Regarding specific icons, I have a favourite Rickenbacker bass icon for my bass tracks. It was always pixelated. But if I loaded it into track 1 it didn’t pixelate. I tried a few icons – all Sonar standard icons, including simple ones like a french horn from the Brass folder – they ALL pixelated upon reopening the project, and they were all fine when I reloaded the icon.

I used Sonar’s icons for all serious projects in 8.5 and none pixelated.

Like I said in my previous post, I tested the “template theory” by starting a new project using a simple template that had no icons; then I added icons afterward. The icons still pixelated upon reopening the file.

I think the tree we have to bark up is why the pixilation is fixed upon reloading an icon. Why would a computer with graphics issues be fine again just because an icon has been loaded a second time?

Also, I think the reason this hasn’t been overly reported is as the OP stated: “No big deal...just curious”. Apparently people who have the problem seem to just put up with it. And I would guess a fair percentage of folks don’t use icons?

Hope this helps.
