Hello all,

Can someone please help me.

I have a pair of Yamaha  hs8 monitors and a focusrite pro 40 interface.

Just to get out the way, my computer specs are more then efficient for music production.

Basically my question is when I turn on my interface and studio monitors I hear hiss coming from the tweeters. It doesn't matter if I turn the volume up or down on my interface, the hiss is the same level consistently. I don't know if this is normal or should my speakers be completely quiet. At points in time I think the hiss is coming from the mix but when I silence everything Its still there. I have balanced cables, and am just plugging the monitors into the monitor left and right insert. that's it. So I am curious if other people have encountered this very issue, if its even an issue? Is this how all high grade monitors are? Please help!!

Thank you

Is the hiss present when the computer is off?

Do you have the "Active Monitor Pad" option engaged? (Click on the Settings button in the MixControl application.) That'll knock your hiss down by nearly 20 dB.

Sorry for the late response guys. this is what happends.

When the when my interface is on is when it gives off a hiss. When I turn the interface off is when it goes away. When The interface is on and I unplug the monitors from the interface then the hiss goes away. So, I am thinking its the interface, but what can I do to make it go away?

Bitflipper, there is no monitor pad that I see in my mix console for my interface, or do you mean the mix control in sonar?

Are your gain levels set very high in your interface by any chance? I dont think the gain takes a linear route so the hiss will increase  more relative to how much you actually turn up the gain knob. What peak recording level are you trying to obtain in your daw?

Edit: Sorry... i missed the part where you said it makes no difference when you adjust volume

Not normal. My Dynaudio's are completely silent. But, since you say the hiss goes away when the interface is off, it sounds like the monitors aren't where the problem is anyway.

I had the same problem when I first got my Pro 40. I was on the verge of sending it back when somebody from Focusrite suggested the active monitor pad setting, which I had been unaware of. It's still slightly hissier than the MOTU that it replaced, but now it's at an acceptable level.
