Yes, the volume goes down because the interface output is lowered by 20 dB. That's OK, though, you just turn up the master volume by 20 dB and now you've improved your SNR by 20 dB. That's because the hiss is constant and not dependent on the volume control's setting.

UPDATE:

cactus Thank you for your replys. Yes i did exactly what you said and worked backwards. I noticed it was coming from the interface somewhere. . I followed what bitflipper said and it seemed great! However I did eventually contact focusrite and they told me to change my output to DAW TRACKING. When I did that the hiss went away. Awsome!! However I cant record under that setting so when I goto record I will have to change settings and when I mix I will have to go back to daw tracking. Thanks all for all the great advise and help!! Much appreciated!!

Having never used the routing presets, I had to look at "DAW TRACKING" to see what it did. Turns out, all it really does is mute your inputs so that all you hear is the DAW's output. You could achieve the same result more conveniently by switching mixes via the tabs across the top. Just set up "Mix 3" with every channel set to "OFF". Then it's one click to switch between the two settings.

But this also suggests that some or most of your noise had been coming through one of the input channels, rather than from the interface itself as I had assumed. Have you tried muting each channel one at a time to see if the noise goes away when one of them is muted?

My standard setup is to have everything muted, and just enable whatever channel(s) I'm recording. Just as I'd do with a real mixer.
