  • Non USB Powered MIDI 2x2 ?

Hi,

Anyone recommend a MIDI 2x2 style interface that isn't USB powered? I've tried MidiSport and MIDI-Tech and they both end up causing weird playback issues in Sonar X3, primarily the transport will not stop - cannot pause/rewind so have to shut down and start again.

From a previous post relating to weirdness (fixed by proper re-installation of Saffire Pro drivers ) I was advised that these USB powered MIDI interfaces are known to cause issues.

I need a stable solution for my hardware synth and any others I buy. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Mike

I do not think "Non USB Powered" should be the key words there. Such type of devices does not consume significant power, most USB keyboards have MIDI IN/OUT in addition to the primary functionality, and can be bus powered without problem.

I do not claim that concrete device is problem free, and I do not claim your HW synth/keyboard is not the problem when connected throw such device.

In your original thread, I have not noticed which HW synth you are using. Are you sure it is not involved in transport operations? Does the problem is still there when 2x2 connected without HW synth? Have you tried to connect whatever you connect throw 2x2 throw MIDI port(s) on your Saffire?

MagicMike Hi, my synth is a DSI Mopho.

Just from the device manual (starting page 30), please check what is transmitted by  device. In particular, try set "Clock" to "Internal". Please also check "Project/MIDI" preferences in SONAR. These settings can have direct influence on transport (mis)behaviour.

Of course there might be firmware and driver updates for all these devices you have mentioned so far. Ta

All drivers and firmware bang up-to-date.

My MOPHO is set to Internal but I will re-check the settings on it and in SONAR - possible that some extraneous midi data is hitting SONAR and messing with playback?

Thanks
