Can anyone recommend someone who could help me with a midi sync problem I have with sonar X3. When I run X3 as the midi master and send midi info to my roland G8 and MPC Drum Machine, While recording the audio tracks, I have a problem, The recording only last between about 2 and 10 measures and then stops and starts. I can't be in front of the system while I talk to Sonar tech support, because of my work schedule. I'v been going back and forth by email with them with no success in solving this problem. I'm looking for someone who could help me remotely or come by my home studio.

Are you saying that the audio disappears and then reappears whilst the project is in record mode in Sonar? (the drop in and out is contained within one clip).
 
Some general advice:
 
Ensure you are running the latest drivers and firmware for your audio interface
Ensure you are running the latest drivers and firmware for any USB MIDI devices.
 
Goto Edit -> Preferences -> Project -> Clock and ensure source "source" is set to audio.
Make sure the MIDI clocks are set correctly on your MIDI instruments.
Ensure there is no chance of MIDI conflict. Avoid MIDI Omni and select a specific MIDI channel in Sonar.
 
Any further issues please post your full specs (see my signature).
I suggest you troubleshoot in these forums first, that's what these forums are for, if anything it will perhaps be educational.

Hi Alex,
When I use a Midisport 2x2, for my midi interface, the problem goes away, everything works as it should..
I figure there has to be a way to use the Motu Midi Express XT that I have purchased. I'm starting to think that it might not be combatable with SonarX3, 64bit running windows 8.1. A Sonar customer support guy took over my PC and monitored the midi data coming from the XT, and told me that system exclusive data was coming through and that it could be causing the jam up. The Motu tech couldn't figure it out. I know the setting are right in sonar and on the Motu XT. If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate hearng them.

Please run the univeral MIDI installer (for latest drivers)/and the firmware updater for midi express (there's a June update here).

Also the universal audio update and latest firmware for your 896mk3usb.

I Updated the drivers again, ( I ran the universal midi and audio installers) I also updated the firmware on both units...I still have the same problem.
 
If you have anymore ideas I would love to hear them,

The latest OS for the EMU is 2.0 - worth checking. I don't have a link to the latest.

After that I would be looking into the MIDI clock settings of each instrument.
Maybe checking the MIDI cables as well.

I know it is something other than the drivers for the G8, the MPC, and the EMU. When I disconnect all of the midi cables ( in's and out's on the Motu Midi Express XT )except the outputs that feed the G8 and the MPC, I still have the same problem. All of the midi settings are correct verified by the sonar tech that took over my computer remotely. As I said before when I hook up a Midisport 2x2 USB to the Windows 8.1 pc ( Running SonarX3 ) everything works fine, Midi , as well as Midi Time Code.
 
It's got to be something else.

I understand what you are saying, but I would still check even just for standard maintenance purposes next. Especially the Roland gear. You have nothing to lose. I've given you links to make it as easy as possible.

To add you mentioned about system exclusive data and that's exactly why I would be updating everywhere as the source of it may not be so clearcut. And what screws up one interface may not screw up another. It's a complex beast and I'm not sure you really have anything that solid about the problem. So always a good idea to start from the bottom up in these scenarios and keep an open mind.

And I'm not just taking about drivers I'm talking also about firmware. Updating may change the format of midi exclusive data slightly. Or there could be a driver conflict, or some performance issue that could be resolved. Just rule it out first.

You would then be looking at buffers in Sonar maybe.
