@Jack
I see what your talking about. But still, do a section with a trk. Next section, another trk. And so on and so on. That way your not opening a trk that has 60 takes in it.

Now the only thing about takes/comping as implemented now that I don't like is when you have a comped trk, and it's promoted to the top, when you copy and paste that promoted trk to another trk, it also copies and pastes all the sections that aren't promoted along with it. IOW, all other takes get copied and pasted too.

Does anyone know a way to stop this?

As an alternative, since you seem to be recording in distinct parts, you could make a new vocal track for each part. You'd be able to make easy and quick comps for the part and combine them later.

I get what you're saying but the whole point of take lanes is that they default to take chronology. If you want to record into a specific take lane, you can.

But then the automatic  looping won't happen. IOW, you would start in the lane you select, but once you come back around (I am asumming that he's recording in loop mode) it will create a new take lane.

Or am I missing something here?

Also, but then you can't hear the existing recorded material in other lanes, because they are automatically muted when you specify which take lane to record in, even in SOUND-ON-SOUND recording mode.

Yeah - obviously there are plenty of work-arounds and I can complete the project any number of other ways.   The feature I'm asking about would be best suited to my particular workflow however - and sounds like it's just not there.  Thanks for all the feedback!
