  • Is there a way to define a default setup for a plugin? (p.3)

I'm pretty sure that I don't have issues with workflow, but this still does not work for me. When I examine Channel Tools in the Layout Editor, it says Default Preset = Increased Width. When I use that Layout to instantiate Channel Tools, the preset is not Increased Width.

Sorry, I can't help...works every time for me. Are you sure you're not leaving out some step?

Hmm ... I just meticulously followed Craig's recipe, using Voxengo SPAN 64-bit VST3, and it works exactly as expected. So I went back to Channel Tools and followed the recipe again equally meticulously. Guess what? It fails to work, exactly as I described in my earlier post. Why does a plug from a 3rd-party work, when one of Cake's doesn't?If only life were infinitely long, we'd have time to chase down all of these idiosyncrasies. But thanks to all for encouraging me to persist this far - with the method, I mean: not with life

I just tried making "Increased Width" the default Channel Tools preset, and it worked exactly as expected. Did you save the layout after selecting the preset in properties? Or if you want to get into corner case territory, are there somehow two versions of Channel Tools installed? (Yes, I know that's really reaching, but don't know what else to say given that I just tested it and it worked.)

I remember this being mentioned some time back but hadn't thought to use it... I will now...

But I'm wondering if thers a way to do this for a ProChannel plugin as well? I rarely use any other plugins these days... ;-)

I just noticed that Channel Tools is available as a DirectX plug-in AND as a VST2 plug-in on my system. If both are on your system, maybe you're saving the preset in one version but calling up the other one.

The closest I've been able to come is "Set Modules as Default for Tracks," but that doesn't save settings, just the modules and their order.

[BTW just noticed you live in Willits. I lived in Redwood Valley for many years, and loved it there. I moved to Florida when the commute to Europe was getting out of hand...took me three hours just to drive to SFO!]

Not for PC modules since they cannot reside in layouts. Not quite the same thing but you can save the entire prochannel strip as a preset and load that.

Thanks Craig - There is no question that I am consistently using the VST2 version. The mystery is that "Increased Width" appears in Item Properties: Default Preset when I open Channel Tools entry in the particular Layout that I am using. So Sonar knows what I want. The preset exists, because I can select it manually with two clicks after Sonar has failed to do it automatically. As I said, life's too short to chase down all of the odd idiosyncrasies in software, so I'll just keep doing the extra two clicks. Thanks, nonetheless, for your efforts.

Zowie... I just happened upon this thread by accident. That feature is deserving of it's own sticky thread and/or inclusion into Dan's SONAR notes IMO. The newsletters would hit the broadest base, since not all users participate here regularly.
