Hi guys,

I am currently dealing with a frustrating problem in Sonar X3 Studio..

sometimes, in some projects it occurs in other it doesn't. When I want to bounce two tracks to one or when I'm trying to export an entire mix to a mp3 or wav file I often get the message: "An internal error occured. The operation was unsuccessful. Dieser Anschluss kann den angegebenen Medientyp nicht verwenden."
note: I'm using the german version of Sonar X3 and this means: "this port cannot use the indicated type of medium", now it's possible that this translated version of the german sentence doesn't make any sense in respect of what it actually means, but I can only translate word by word since I don't even know what the german sentence is referring to. I don't know what is meant by port (hardware?, software?) or type of medium (mp3???).

Also when I am NOT exporting in fast bounce but in real bounce, sonar crashes right when the bounce is done and a message shows up that says there is a problem with the "SONARSTD.exe" which I can find in the processes list of my task manager. I think it's got to do something with MIDI-devices etc.??? But even if there is no midi device connected the same thing happens: sonar x3 crashes and the message shows up...

I have no problem with ocassional inconveniences but it's SO ANNOYING when nothing is working and you have no idea what is going on.
Maybe someone out there had to deal with the same problem and was able to solve it.

If you'll need some extra information about hardware, software etc. just tell me

I am so much looking forward to answers and tips,
so thanks in advance!!!

I have had this a few times and in my case the project had become corrupted.

The way I fixed it was to play the project all the way through and usually the corruption point will throw up an audio drop out.

At this point in the timeline you can start to trouble shoot. (In my case I had to bounce the track, or join the clips)

Hi markyzno,

well I have to say that I have quite a week audio engine (or whatever, I am really a noob when it comes to this..) so I have drop-outs at random points a lot, but it's no big thing, I just press play again and it starts again.

So I will try as you said but it might be possible that.. you know what I mean xD

Increase your latency to give you a stable playback with your audio engine and then try playing it...

A corruption will halt the projects playback no matter what

WhiteSheet,

I'd contact Cakewalk Support.
https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Contact

It's free.

I haven't seen that error. Markyzno may be able to help you through your issue, but I would bet Cakewalk support can too.

You shouldn't have to suffer this type of problem. Sonar should work properly. If it doesn't, give the support guys a crack it helping you discover what's wrong.

If I wanted to try some things before calling support, these are some things I might try.
1. Disable all audio FX and bounce the tracks/export the tracks. Pressing the letter E on you keyboard does this - or using the global bypass button on the control bar.
-- If this one helps, try re-enable FX a few at a time to narrow down the list of possible culprits.
2. Import the audio into a new project and try bouncing.
3. Go into preferences VSTs and click the button to update them all. If some VST has changed under the covers, Sonar might not be aware yet.
4. Increase buffers on the interface in Preferences > Devices.
5. Restart your computer (probably useless but you never know). ;-)

Ok I tried it on several projects now, but I had no drop-outs whatsoever, none :/

Are the messages from Sonar or your OS? X3 has been rock solid for me but the only thing on my computer is Sonar and related music software. I do recall there is a setting in Preferences where you can boost the buffer for rendering. I am not sitting in front of my music computer but I'll check it out for you. My rendering was way slow. Once I increase the value all was well. You also have the option of reinstalling the software and make sure it is a clean install with no background programs running.
Are these projects ones that were originally started in an earlier version of Sonar?

Before contacting support, you might make sure you are on the latest patch (x3e).

Also, there was some temporary bug that was resolved by disabling the x64 processing in preferences. I can't now remember what it was. Something to do with Concrete Limiter perhaps? I don't remember. But disabling that is another random thing you could try.

Again, contacting support is the way to go. There are tons of us who can give you little tips that MIGHT work... support will for sure run down the trouble and help you past it.
