I did a clean install of Windows 8, my X3 software installed fine but my Cakewalk Apro 800 driver won't load, it hangs and does not finish loading. So far after many attempts with the win 8 driver I have had no success, I think I might try the win 7 driver. I need my keyboard working to finish a project. Any ideas will be welcome, am I making a basic error?

How are you connecting it? It looks like it has both standard midi as well as usb connections.
 
If you're using the usb does windows pick it up when you plug it in?
Usually if you plug a usb device in prior to installing the drivers windows will see it and try to install drivers
from it's database which obviously it won't have, it should then ask you to direct it to the drivers and from there you can direct it to the downloaded exe.file.
 
I'm just thinking it might be a case of the driver not being installed properly.
When it's plugged in with the usb go the to the device manager and see if it's listed under sound, video and game controllers. I think it should show up there if the drivers are installed properly.

I agree with Twaddle. I'd take a look in device manager and see if it looks healthy there.

The windows 8/8.1 driver must be installed first.  It will tell you when to plug in the A Pro keyboard.

Not familiar with your particular device, but a couple of general things that can hang up a software install.

• Turn off virus scan - especially if going back to the net for confirmation. This and a firewall can cause stuff to hang and may not give any warning. (don't forget to turn it back on when done - try some other options first - especially if the source of the software my be questionable)
• Try installing in Administrator mode. Use the 'Run as Administrator' option.
• Check for stuff running in the background. Sometimes doing a hard reboot will clear things that are still running from earlier programs. You can also use the Task Manager to shut down running programs that might cause interference.

These drivers are a pain in the ass to install. Make sure you remove all instances of the drivers and reboot. Keep it off until necessary.
