Excellent - I'm glad you're up and running again...

Maybe someday I'll be useful on the recording aspect of these forums, but for now I'll stick to DVD repairs

Can't be the gel variety... has to ave the little bits of grit in it... like the Arm & Hammer stuff. I think I used some colgate varierty, can't remember... mmmm, minty fresh DVDs!

After applying the toothpaste and wiping it off, it's not necessary to rinse the disk with a little water?

Grave digging, I know, but for future reference...
 
If you have multiple computers available, try the DVD in a different computer/drive. If it works with a different drive, use a program like ImgBurn to back-up the original, then burn a new DVD from the backup image and try that in your DAW.
 
In fact, I'd try different drives before I started using abrasives on the DVD.
