Howdy,
I have a MIDI piano track that I used the velocity slider on to reduce the velocity to a softer timbre...the higher velocity notes are just right but the lower velocities are almost inaudible.
I really don't want to go through the whole piece and make the adjustments note by note.
IIRC there's a way to set the highest and lowest velocity but I can't find it in the reference guide...can someone refresh my memory please?

This may be oversimplified, but would using a compressor on the audio output work? I will only "edit MIDI so far" before I do the rest of the mixing in the audio side of things (my patience with PRV is very limited).

The Velocity MFX can set a velocity range with the Limit slider. There are CAL scripts written before the Velocity MFX was developed which do the same thing.

mettelus- I thought of that but judging by the few notes I did adjust I want the difference in timbre also (not just volume).
 
scook- It must have been a cal script I used years ago (that I was able to set the lowest and highest velocity) but I can't recall what it was called.
Anyway, I'm guessing you mean something other than the slider in the TV (just below vol and pan) that I already tried.
I got no results searching the guide for velocity mfx,  velocity midi effets, etc.
Can you elaborate please?

It is an MFX plug-in (illustration from http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X3&language=3&help=Plug-ins.3.html )

The fourth slider Limit can be set to a high and low value.
 
Insert into the MIDI FX bin. F1 over the UI will bring up the help. Sometimes the help screen opens behind SONAR.

Hey Scott,
Sorry man but I'm confused...following the instructions you supplied I enter a minimum and maximum in the velocity boxes (54 to 108) and click ok. The dialogue then disappears and immediately pops up again with 0 and 127 as min and max respectively with everything under "special events" at the bottom right checked and greyed out.
I enter the values again in the velocity boxes and hit ok again but nothing changes.
What the heck am I missing?

BTW scook, it seems the velocity mfx doesn't deal with minimum, only maximum ...unless I'm just not understanding it either.
 

 The Limit slider sets a ceiling and a floor. Try grabbing the bottom of the slider and dragging up to set the bottom limit?
