  • Has anyone made a collection of SONAR drum maps for the Battery 4 factory library? (p.2)

Hi Mike,
Yes, what I was saying is that the Reaper files are just text files.

The fellow that made the Reaper text files used a macro to pull the info out of the Battery kit files.

I wasn't sure about the SONAR .map files. When I was posting the links to the B2 and B3 maps I looked at them and saw they were not text.

Maybe someone can advocate for getting info about the file structure.

Unfortunately the Sonar Maps are binary not, as pointed out farther above, raw text. If Cakewalk published the data structure(s) I would be happy to attempt writing a little utility to read the Reaper files in. Anyone have a feel for how Cakewalk would respond to that?

Regards,

Only way to know is to ask. That is something many users would appreciate. Send Noel a PM.

Done.

As you pointed out SONAR drum maps are in a binary format. They are stored using the same object oriented versionable format that we use for the SONAR project file. As such, unfortunately, it would be pretty complex to write a raw text to binary converter without having access to the libraries we use for persistence, even if I sent you the details of the drum map data structure (which itself is a bit complicated since there are two parts to it, the mapping and the routing).
A more realistic way would be to have a text import into SONAR but even that would be non trivial.

Thank you for addressing the inquiry Noel.

FWIW, I think that SONAR drum mapping is a very powerful feature and the Drum Map manager is a great tool for when you have set up a custom patch.

I've seen it mentioned many times that it is unfortunate that Drum Maps are referred to as "Drum Maps" as they can be very useful for many combinations of synths or samplers. The usefulness extends far beyond just mapping for drums.

I hope that Cakewalk will consider the idea of making batch processes a possibility in the future.

Thanks.

Indeed drum maps are a bit of a misnomer since its essentially a general routing mechanism. We hope to make improvements in this area in the future so well keep this in mind.
