  • [Solved] X3 consistently crashes on save (p.2)

Did you submit an error report? If so what is the bug number?

I'm fairly certain this is a machine specific problem, as it does not appear to be a widespread issue.
The crash dump refers to exception code c000096.
Google searches have not shown me anything useful.
I have created a new project with no plug-ins to rule out the possibility of those being the problem. X3 still crashes on save.
System specs are in my sig.
The program executes flawlessly, and everything is great, until I attempt to close it.
I'm at a loss on this one.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the input, guys.
Steve, the system even viewer showed normal startup and shutdown stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Kylotan, this is on a 64 bit machine that I have just migrated to. So far I just have one project on this machine, so nothing else to compare to. Oddly, this never happened on the Vista 32 bit machine.

I did restore the system to 7/1/14 last night. This was the only restore point available, and it was a normal checkpoint, not triggered by installing software.
I just got home from work a while ago, and did a few test saves. Tried Save and Save As, and all seems to be well.
It may be worth noting that the system has gone into sleep mode during previous sessions. I know that routine was poorly written in XP and earlier. Is it still bad in W7/W8?

Noel, I did not do that. If it happens again, I will send you the error report.
Thanks again.

Do NOT let your system go into sleep mode during Sonar sessions.

Go into your Power Management options and disable that.

While you are in there, go to the Advanced options in Power Management Options and turn off the USB Selective Suspend option,if you have any USB-connected devices, such as your audio interface or midi controllers.  By default, Windows will disable any USB device it deems idle after some period of time, and this goofs up Sonar.

Lastly, I always have my minimum processor state set to 100%, for any computer running Sonar.

The above do not directly relate to your original reported issue, but since I directed you to the power management options, I thought I would toss those suggestions out, as well.

I think you may have nailed it, Bob.
There seems to be a direct correlation with sleep/suspend functions and the issues I was having.
I'll turn those off straight away.
Thanks.

Well, that's good news.

For future reference, if you want to edit your thread's subject, just pull up the thread's initial post and click edit - then change the subject (like to add 'solved').  That way, you don't need to create a dummy post.  :)
