Why I'm not buying AD2 expansion packs....

I don't have AD2.

Maybe a little jealous that the new guys get it.

Maybe with X4?
Edit: I changed the title since I did buy another one.

While I am just now exploring AD2, since I've been a long time Toontrack user.. but since I now have it (with X3), it does seem like a nice program, but I still prefer Toontrack at this point.  The Fairfax expansion seems to be the "hot/best" one... but I'd like to see the prices come down.  Cake takes $10 off the $89 everyday price, but with so many already owned expansions from Toon...and now the new stuff that came with AD2, shucking out more for drums is almost as bad as taking up accordian as a 2nd instrument.

Check out Toontrack EZD2 if you don't have it.  It seems to be the best buy, for your dollars worth, currently.

Buy any ADpak, and you will also get the critically-acclaimed Addictive Drums 2 engine.

I just saw this in an email from Cakewalk, so I bought it. I hope this means I get AD2.

I think what you end up with is a one-kit version of AD2 and they don't give you new versions of the Pop/Rock/Prog kits.

Well that sure is irritating.

I still havent figured out how all the upgrades work.
With X3P I got the Prog/Rock/Pop kits.

I'm not sure about that, this is all pure speculation from people who haven't bought the product in this configuration, or can't supply the full specs (next to useless then and probably adds to the confusion).
I think you might just get away with it (but again this is useless advice).
I would have contacted the Walk of Cake first myself so good luck :).

The confusing "engine" terminology must be the app  (damn it marketers please note it's an application with an engine within it ) as the upgrade is also referred to as "engine" here:

Cheers ! :)

Shouldn't this be in the Software forum?

I purchased the upgrade and received the Fairfax kit. I don't know about AD2 being critically acclaimed...it certainly did not travel well in my setup. I experienced CPU spikes and 'glitches' in the time-line tracker. That is, when the vertical time line keeps pace with the composition, it would stop - visually - and then jumps to the current position on the time line. I don't get this with AD1. So I had to get a refund and uninstall it, which was disappointing as I liked the Fairfax.

Not sure how long ago that was Alan, but there have been a number of patches recently with AD2. It wasn't a very smooth launch for sure but I suspect most of the bugs are ironed out.
