• SONAR
  • Plugin Layouts - confusion ?

My goal is to have a user favorites folder "A_sk_1" but to also be able to browse other VTS2 plug-ins
when my layout is set to "A_sk_1" ... by right clicking in a bin and browsing the default VST2 folder, but it seems that
the way this is built is that because "A_sk_1" contains VST2 plug-ins, X3 assumes that I don't want to see any other
VST2 or be able to see the VST2 folder.

You can see here when "Default all...: is selected there are 3 folders available to browse:
VST3, VST2, DirectX.

SO when switching to the layout called "A_sk_1" we see that there are still 3 folders to browse but VST2 is gone:

but there are 4 folders in the layout:

Assuming that maybe there was a 3 folder limit to the menu, I removed the DirectX folder from the layout but the result was that then, only 2 folders were in the menu ... VST3 and A_sk_1.
I also tried re ordering the folders but still have not found a way to have "A_sk_1" and also VST2 available in the short list of folders.

The implication of this is that because "A_sk_1" contains VST2 plug-ins
then
X3 assumes that I don't want to see any other VST2 plug-ins.

Is this intentional and if so what am I not understanding?

Thank you!

If there is a limit to the number of folders it is much higher than 4. Simply adding a folder name does not populate the folder. Empty folders are not displayed in that context menu. Once you elect to create a custom layout, it is up to you to populate the layout completely. SONAR will not add plug-ins to the layout. It may be easier to create your favorites layout and switch layouts when you need something from the full layout.

Yes. I think you have it mostly correct, but Sonar DOES populate the other folders, VST3 and DirectX, in the layout, and I never touched those.

Sonar has assumed that since I put VST2 plugins in A_sk_1
then
I don't want to see other VST2.
Even so, in the layout A_sk_1 the VST2 folder is filled the same way it is in the default layout.
BUT
If when in A_sk_1 ... I add VST2 plugins
THEN
the VST2 folder in now available in the short list but with only the ones I've added.
Problem here is that it creates a bloody mess in the browser adding duplicates for all VST2 that are added to the layout.

I agree the best work around method is to create the favorites folder and then switch between layouts when wanting other VST2.
I think it's just unfinished programing.

The fix would be: When using a custom plugin layout, to have Sonar always show and populate ALL folders when right clicking in a bin, in the exact same way that it does in the browser.

The oversight is in not having that same exact functionality when right clicking in a bin as we do when we use the browser.

I would hope in X4 this part of the UI would be made more slick as it isn't particularly intuitive.

Would you mind logging this in Cakewalk problem reporter? I'm not sure if this should be treated as a bug or an enhancement request. It would be nice to keep us updated if you are able... thanks... :)
