I thought this would be very handy...
 
I love the EQ flyouts and I love the built-in spectrum display they give us. I got spoiled with this years ago with the Timeworks EQ. Sonar's is even better (so is the EQ though the Timeworks was pretty good too)...
 
Now for some sweetening?
 
I just tried the Feature Request Page and it's still down, but I thought it would be good to post some of these issues so that maybe we can remind each other to post them when the site is back up... Unless, of course, if the new release comes out first and has everything we're dreaming of already there! ;-)
 
Well... Here's some things I'd love to see in the flyout's future:
 
Pre/Post switching for the spectrum display to visualize the difference... I might not be reading them well enough yet... as I try to determine pre-post? I feel as though when I turn a band on/off the spectrum changes, so it appears we're seeing post. and use of the switches can show the difference of that band, but bypassing the eq stops the display so I can't fully (visually) toggle this as a unit...
 
...and that brings me to the other issue I'm thinking of:
 
The display is sometimes confusing with a blank area horizontally with wave info above and below... Trying to read and interpret that is a bit confusing to me. I see this when I do a HPF roll-off of something such as a kick drum where the displayed value is greater than the shaded area which I believe is a display of adjusted value?
 
I'm not sure what can be done about this as it is a conflict betweeen two different sets of information (that relate) and happen to overlap in their' way...
 
Maybe a switch to enable either/both? Is there already such a switch that I didn't see?

I think what would make most happy is to have the eq contain a full featured analyzer with functionality of SPAN or better still melda production's multi-analyzer with the ability to compare multiple tracks.

Pre/post would be a great addition.  So would a saturation or brightness control - sometimes I'd like the display to be more obvious than it is.

I ask because the display seems to be pre, I see very little difference graphically with, say, the low-cut in. But I do hear it.

+1.  A pre/post button would be great.. PLUS.. a way to make the spectrum display brighter.  I often tweak my creations when I am outdoors using my laptop, and trying to see the dark gray on black display is hopeless.  I submitted a feature request for this some time ago, and I'm hoping the bakers will work it into the cake at some point.

Rather than a pre-post switch, which would require another user interface element, I think the simplest solution from a UI standpoint would be to have the spectrum analyzer display active regardless of whether the EQ was enabled or bypassed.

Doesn't disabling the bands accomplish the same thing? It's four clicks and the audio would change but AFAIK that should get the graph to display the raw input.
 
I do however find the graph to be finicky. I have to reload it multiple times to even get a readout and sometimes, as wicked said, the changes aren't always apparent. Like I can hear them but can't really see them but if I take it to an extreme then I can which makes more wonder sometimes that perhaps I'm not seeing an exact analysis at all times. Like sometimes it is showing me the right thing but others it is not.
 
Might be a problem with my graphics card/set up though. I'm assuming that this feature is rather graphic resource intensive.

Yes, disabling the bands does the same thing...but to A/B, you're talking 8 clicks instead of 2. If you do a lot of comparisons, those clicks add up.
