A change in the administration of the Justice Department may make the goal of avoiding cannabis easier for those so inclined. The only thing standing between the jurisdictions who have "legalized" cannabis possession and sale for any purpose, and the federal law that makes it illegal under any circumstances, is a memorandum penned by deputy attorney general James Cole in 2013:

https://www.justice.gov/iso/opa/resources/3052013829132756857467.pdf

That document only directs federal attorneys to prioritize which parties will be prosecuted, giving a lower priority to cases in which the states have authorized its distribution. It in no way either immunizes violating parties or excuses the activities which remain illegal under federal law. A simple new memorandum from the next Attorney General or his designate can reverse that policy.

Sigh. And we're getting a new AG who's just left of Genghis Khan.

And as a statement of electoral fact, as opposed to a prohibited political diatribe, of the eight states that have passed laws permitting small amounts of cannabis for recreational use, only one, Maine which splits its electoral votes, contributed anything to the election of the current administration.

Another interesting correlation: in 2014, both teams that met in the Superbowl represented the only two states with legal pot. Coincidence?

Perhaps we can posit cannabis freedom is an aid to the recruitment of talent. In the first year of legalization, applications to colleges in Colorado reportedly increased dramatically.

Personally I'd like to see the general affect on people's waistlines as a result of legalizing something which makes you move slower and eat more
