  • ***LOCATING MISSING FILES***

Hi Folks,
I was working on a song that I had imported from Band-in-the-Box. I dragged a few tracks over to X2, then laid a bunch of live tracks and vocals. I had been saving after every change because my Sonar has a tendency to crash occasionally (not Sonars fault,---only 4GB of ram). But everything was fine,---it opened this morning and I've been using it all day. Because I had a few incarnations of the song saved, I numbered them and decided to put them in a folder. Now I cannot find the files,---Sonar says the audio is missing. Also, when I navigate to the folder, the other incarnations of the song are not there,---only a sub file that says "audio". The BIAB files were MIDI, which I'm sure has something to do with this, but can anyone please tell me how to locate these files? As I said, it only disappeared after I put the song versions into a folder. Thank you very much in advance!

Does it report the name of the files? Can you search your hard drive through explorer for filenames?

If you would have had to change the original midi file to a CWP "Normal" file extension as mid files don't save audio. It would have gone to your default save location as shown in your preferences.
I take it your not using per project folders and the copy all audio options which you'll see in the save as dialog.

Your audio might even be in the dogs breakfast of the dreaded "global audio folder"
If you where using per project folders then as I said, go to your preferences and see what pathways you have set. Everything will still be there.

Did you drag and drop a folder, a CWP icon or ?? into the new folder. Is there wave files in the audio folder?
Or did you use "save as" and browse to the new location?
If you didn't use the Copy audio with project option the audio will still be in the original audio folder. But Sonar would have returned there. You've somehow split up your projects CWP and audio.

I was able to locate the file names by doing an Explorer search. I did do a "save as". But now that I may have located the separate files, how do I assemble them back together?

Put the Audio folder in the same folder with the CWP icon.(s)

The other way I've accomplished this is to open the CWP and when it tells you there's missing audio you browse to where you know it is, trouble  you'll have to repeat for each missing track, so it's easier to use the first method.
