I'm sure there's a simple solution but it's not coming to me
 
Using Sonar X3 Producer
 
Start new project, insert soft synth (SI-Electric Piano), play a few notes (fine), record a few notes (fine), playback (fine), paste information from another project.. NO SOUND. It's registering, I can see the VU meters, but nothing. Then if I stop playback and play a few notes... NOTHING! If I undo and redo to the point where I insert soft synth the sound is back, but disappears again if I try the same process.
 
Why is the sound suddenly dropping? Any ideas?

I'd look at your copy/paste settings and try to figure out which parameter is being re set when you paste into the project.
 
The copy paste settings have check boxes for various things, so I'm guessing you are over writing something. It probably is a very simple change in one of the routing settings but if you are not aware that it is happening it is a show stopper.
 

Has the paste operation got any changes to I/O or mute data.
 
What sound card are you using?

Without knowing more about the "information from another project" or where it is being pasted in the new project, this thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/Solved-Is-it-a-BUG-m3055447.aspx works through a similar problem of no audio from an sfz engine synth.
