Serious_Noize!
I really enjoyed hearing this, I have been playing around with fingerstyle guitar the last year or so, but not by choice, it's too long a story to tell and I don't wanna take away from your post.
This was really good! Although I'm sure mix wise there are flaws and such, LOL, THERE ARE ALWAYS FLAWS, but ya know what, I don't ever wanna be perfect, because the second I am it means I am a machine and what I recorded was nothing more than scripted. I like to keep things real and keep it semi-raw. I'm a big fan of Kiss Alive II album.
Sounded really good to me. My only suggestion would be to mix things up a bit more, you got the finger picking runs working for you, THINK about those, then don't just MIX things up, Look for chord alternative picking spots.
I started piddling around with finger picking the guitar about a year or so ago, not by choice but I wont bore you with the story, I haven't been going at it 24/7, more or less when my interest sparks. And one thing I have learned is with finger picking where travis picking or pattern picking methods go, sometimes what helps a whole lot is to move to various chord configurations within the key of the song you are playing, no repetitions. I realize you are playing a classical style, but I'm talking about tonality variations, that's what I am trying to say.
I'm an amateur guitar player, or at least I consider myself so. Thing is, it's not so much what ya know, but how you play that makes you a professional in my opinion, at least that is when it comes to playing your own music.
Enjoyed this very much!!!! Thanks for sharing and kudos!!!! I enjoyed hearing it, hearing is all that matters ya know regardless of what ya know.
Hi Serious_Noize! ,
This song started out as a solo guitar piece I wrote / play for myself and people when I play informally or when I have played out at my own gigs under my own name ... (theaters ...coffee houses ) ...
It is a challenging song to play correctly at tempo and I never play it exactly the same way twice ..
Usually I just go for an in the moment type of vibe . I may add or subtract sections or even extend things depending on how it is going and what level of chops I may have on tap ...
The overall general reaction I have gotten over the years has been most people that have seen me play it or have heard it have enjoyed this tune in its various incarnations ...
Having said that I wasn't really expecting to knock this totally out of the ball park when I started working on this tune ...
With out anything additional being played .....as a solo guitar piece it stands on it own ...as a guitar arrangement ..
A brick wall that I have seemed to have hit is I took a version of my tune that was not recorded in an optimal setting and I started building up from that arrangement ...
FWIW , I felt that this was a good place for me to start because all I was looking to do was to get back into recording since I have recently upgraded to SPlat and I felt I needed something to work on as a project ...
Yeah , warts and all I think this tune was a good place to start ....
I do have other mix's on tap that I prefer than the one that is up where every thing is tighter and brought up in volume ...
If I get stuck one of those may go up as a placeholder mix ...
I'm seriously considering rerecording the acoustic guitar part and adding much more variation to the piece w the instrumentation and guitar themes ....
A lot of people may not know this but I don't even have my home studio set up
it's still in boxes ...
I'm just sitting here w a POS lap top on my kitchen table just trying to get back into playing my guitar ...
If there was a point I was looking to make it probably would be that my "whole pay off " is I'm trying to improve as a musician first .....
SONAR and everything else may play into it to a small degree ...but those tools will always take a back seat to my playing skills ...
that's what I'm sharing not my recording skills ...
Anyway , I am grateful that I can sit here at my kitchen table and do this type of thing ...
I feel that it is a true gift to be able to pass my time in the woodshed and grow in private w out too much outside pressure .
It is always nice to be able to come here to share my music and listen to other forum members music ...
It is nice form of fellowship since many of us are pretty much juggling a lot of different skills and working on doing our music alone a lot of the time .
thank you for the song listen and comments . I appreciate that you went there
Kenny
