  • [Solved] UNABLE TO LOAD PERSONAL SAMPLES IN THE BROWSER FOR SONAR X2

Good Day, I am new to the forum

i want to say that this is a simple problem but it has persisted for quite a few months now.. I have ignored it for the most part because I haven't been using Sonar heavily but now I am and this is pretty annoying

As simple as I can put it.. I can load any of Sonar's sounds and content in the browser that comes with it but none of my own. Any time I try to load my own, X2 stops responding and I have to close it down.

Has anyone ever experienced this?
How do you resolve this?

Thanks in advance for your help

What format are the files? Where did the files come from?

chawilcomm...Has anyone ever experienced this?...

No, I haven't, chawilcomm - That browser in Sonar can be directed to anywhere you want, and then the location can be saved so you have a direct route from then on.  I had a recent project where I needed to set up a large number of sound clips, and it worked perfectly to set up a link to that folder and insert the clips throughout the project - All exactly as per the way it's supposed to work.  I was working with .wav files, some 24 bit, some 16 - Sonar doesn't care what resolution the files are.

Scook has asked the only logical question - What's the nature of your files?  Aren't they in some standard audio format that we usually work with?

Do you mean you can't load samples "in" the browser or "from" the browser?

Also note you can drag samples from a project into the browser in addition to point the browser to file locations.

I wrote article about the browser for Sound on Sound. It's accessible to subscribers and will "go public" in a few months.

Mostly .wav some mp3. They all are on a separate hard drive from the cakewalk content.

I mean I can't load up my own sample collection in the browser. So far as cakewalk content I can load in and from the browser just fine.

I didn't think this was a common issue because even to me it seemed ridiculous that it happens but it does. Especially considering the fact that I was able to do this at first. I have tried to do an uninstall and re-install to see if that will help. I even tried looking into the properties of the folders in  my samples hard drive to see if maybe the read only function was selected and that was what stopped Sonar's Browser from loading up my samples properly and made no progress there either...

keep hitting the up arrow in the sonar browser until you are at the highest level, which would be the same as "my computer" in windows explorer. this should show all your drives and allow you to navigate to the drive you want.

Ive tried that hoping that it would work and it didn't. I have it set up in the media dropdown for faster navigation and even thought that if I could delete it from the dropdown it would work but I couldn't figure out how to remove it from that list.

I have covered all of the basics. I sent in a request to tech support over a week ago and haven't heard anything back as well.
Ill probably try an uninstall again but make sure I remove everything from the roaming appdata folders..
Do you know all of the steps it takes to COMPLETELY remove sonar from a computer?

Just substitute X2 for X1 - but I don't believe this will solve your problem.
I think it's something far more basic/simple than anything needing a reinstall.

That's the sense I get too. The browser has always been bulletproof for loading my own files.

I'm open for any other tips that you may have. One thing did happen yesterday. I loaded up a file and attempted to open my own samples again in the browser.. Left the house for a few hours and when I came back I was able to navigate through my sample drive.
So.. I closed X2 down and opened it back up to try and see how long it took and 20 minutes later it was still didn't do anything. Usually after a few minutes I would see the (not responding) on the top screen
