Thanks, enjoyed it. Loved the MA 200, little too much for my budget. Just did a shoot-out with a vintage U87 and an MJE MOD Rode NT1a last week, these are fun to do.

I'm surprised how much I like the 421 on her voice, particularly for that style. It's funny, I've got 3 or 4 of them lying around here but I've always used them on toms or guitar cabs. Never even thought about using them on vox. I may have to give it a try.

The 421 really dates back, and you saw them on game shows like Hollywood squares, where they used white ones.  A popular mic for voice as well.  It's only when rock and roll came into town, that these mics started becoming "famous" for other uses.  Think other mics like the Re-20 and even the SM57...although that was an *instrument* mic..... the snare drum made it famous.

I was actually surprised how similar the mics sounded, with the exception of the attacks.  But to ME, all had similar tonal sounds.  Moving away from the mic just a little bit, would have a bigger impact on the sound, than the type of mic, I think.  But...my ears will be 61 tomorrow...so take my comments with a grain of salt.

I guess it helps a lot too if you are a good singer :)
