  • Scolling cursor disappears

I don't see any threads describing this situation, although  some of the known X3d bugs are at least a little similar.

I was working on a new project tonight.  It was created entirely under X3d.  At some point, the scrolling cursor stopped appearing.  Playback continued to work normally, but I could not see where the cursor was.  I could infer its position from the waves themselves.

I have not figured out exact steps to recreate the problem, as it is somewhat intermittent.  So far I have only seen this behavior on one project.  Restarting Sonar, or rebooting entirely did not clear the problem, but I think it went away on its own at one point.  Using a different project, the cursor behaved normally.

I never saw that before this evening.  I have used X3d sparingly since its release.  Tonight was the first time I have worked for several hours on X3d.  The only other difference I can see is that I purchased and installed the concrete limiter.  Previously I had been using Boost1.

Has anybody seen this behavior?

Try hitting Scroll Lock on your computer keyboard.

That did not change anything.

It only seems to be one project.  I just launched SONAR with that project.  The cursor was missing.  I opened another project and the cursor was fine.  I bounced between the two projects using the Windows menu several times.  Each time the broken project stayed broken.  And then it just decided to start working again on its own.  I didn't do anything.

So at this moment, I cannot break it.

You probably have "Left click locks scroll" selected. It is in the Track View menu---->Options----->Click Behaviour.

When it is selected if you select anything in either the track view or PRV scrolling stops to allow you to carry on editing without the view scrolling away from you.

Right click in the top half of the time line to restart scrolling, or if you don't want the behaviour at all, uncheck the option.

Thanks for the idea.  I had not seen those options before.  However, I don't think that is the problem.  My issue is not whether or not scrolling happens.  My issue is that the cursor (white vertical line that passes through all the tracks at the current playback point) just disappears.  Scrolling is normal, I just can't see the cursor.

In other words, when I was having the problem, I could zoom out all the way so that the ENTIRE song was visible in the track view without any scrolling.  And I still could not see the white cursor line.

I tried all the options in that menu and a variety of left clicks and right clicks to see if I could re-introduce the problem.  But for now I cannot break this project.  The cursor appears all the time now, as it should.  As far as I know, there is no option to suppress display the cursor as long as it is within the visible scrolling pane.  I can't imagine why anybody would want such an option.

Not sure if it's the same thing but there are a couple of threads on the now time randomly disappearing. For me the only way to get it back is to close and reopen the project. Was a problem for me with X2a and I am now at X3b but haven't been using it enough to be able to say it persists. Others have said that toggling the inspector (I) will make it return for them so that might be worth a try.

Yes, I saw those reports and I had the same idea that these might be two different symptoms from the same root cause.

My problem was not cleared by closing SONAR and restarting, nor did it clear with a complete power-on reboot.  But it seemed to go away on its own.  I suppose there was some triggering event, but I cannot account for it.

I'll keep my eyes open for a recurrence and, if that happens, I'll try the other things you mentioned.

Perhaps it's the Aim Assist line?

Yes, I think "aim assist" is what I am calling the cursor.  I will play with that setting.  Perhaps I was toggling that by accident.  Thanks.

On edit, Aim Assist seems to be something different.  Evidently Aim Assist is a line that tracks with the mouse cursor.  Toggling that off and on had no effect on my scrolling display.  Again, I am simply talking about the vertical white line that always displays in tracks at the current playback position.  This white line just disappeared for awhile.  Without the line, you have to guess where the playback is currently.  I cannot imagine any reason why there would be an option to turn this off.  Playback is confusing if the white line doesn't appear.

Bummer...  Hopefully you can figure it out!
