I believe you must have Enterprise of Pro if you want to do Remote Desktop Connections. This is helpful if you want to have a remote Touch Screen device such as a MS Surface or Dell Venue act as a control surface.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm ordering the $99 simple version, as Alex said, I'm sure there's always an upgrade path. This is for my office computer first so I can test it out without screwing my DAW up. If I like it, I'll go with W8.1 when I rebuild my DAW next winter. Summers here, time to get out and play gigs. Just about finished our album so studio will be gathering dust for a while.

Used both a lot. Still using both. Version 8.1.1 is better, certainly multitasking is a LOT better. It's debatable whether it's worth upgrading to Win 8.1.1 from Win 7, but with a new PC would definately recommend 8.1.1 .. Older versions of Windows 8 are inferior (in retrospect I feel it was released prematurely), it feels pretty mature now.

It's funny when ever they release a new OS or even Sonar, you are best to wait a bit till the smoke clears and there is a bit of dust on it.  I think the dust has half settled on Windows 8.

I don't know about everyone else but Win 8 and Win 8.1 is "for the birds".  If there were any way to avoid going to either I would avoid it in a heartbeat! I haven't put up the cash to go to a MAC.  I wish we could get billions of folks to use Ununtu or some other Lniux OS.

I've managed to install the "Classic Shell" so as to get back as close to an XP user interface as I can; but, every once in a while Win 8/8.1 raises its ugly head and tries to sell be some crap they call "APPS".  I've read somewhere that even Bill Gates  has registered his scathing remarks concerning Win 8 ... anyone else heard that?

I don't understand the negative comments about Windows 8. I have had a great time with it. I also like that one OS will let me use all apps and programs I want to use. I too use Classic Shell but I also use the Start Screen. I find it very handy as I do Classic Shell.

What I use the most is the Task Bar. This is where I have all most used programs. One click and I'm in a program.

Things run smoothly with Windows 8 and I also think its the most secure OS Microsoft has yet offered.

It starts up quickly and goes directly to the Desktop. I am running Windows 8.1.1 Pro 64 bit. My main programs are Sonar X3 and Vegas Pro 13 with Aftershot Pro 2 and PantShop Pro X5. All are 64 bits and Windows 8 runs them very well indeed.

Having dual monitors I find Windows 8 supports them better then past OSs. Clearly I have good time with Windows 8 and think it is so far the best OS Microsoft has yet produced.

What you say is all well and good; but again, why is it that you have Classic Shell loaded?  Seems to me that W-8 is a very sorry attempt to do the annoyiung thing that Apple does with their IOS  ... sell apps ... sell apps ... sell aps.

Selling apps is not a a bad idea. Who would have thought a software maker would want to sell software? In order to use an app from Apple you have to have a an Apple iPad or iPhone. Also there are tons of free apps for Windows. They run on a phone a tablet and a desktop.

I use Classic Shell because I can. I like it for the added value it offers and I like the guy that wrote it. I don't think you have that choice with a Mac.
