  • No sound, missing master outputs

Trying to use an 8.5 PE project on X3 PE, but I can't get sound, and the apparent reason is because X3 won't allow me to assign the proper master outputs, which are missing. I feel like the butt of a bad practical joke.

Output channels start at 3, I need them to start at 1.

I went to the preferences/ driver settings and changed the recording and playback "timing master" to Play 01 and Record 01 and the channel one outputs reappeared (channel 16 disappeared, though). So I assigned them properly, but I still have no sound.

So I went to a song that played properly yesterday that I did't change anything on, and now there's no sound from that either. Rebooted, still no dice.

To say this is extremely frustrating is an understatement.

Is there any possible chance that you don't have outputs 1 and 2 checked in Edit>Preferences>Audio>Devices?

Just wondering if Sonar is aware they exist - double check your device's input and output drivers are all checked as desired.

No. I just checked, and they are all assigned, just like yesterday when everything was working properly.

Yeah, I was reaching :)

That's a weird one.

Is it possible there is something wrong with those outputs on the device?  If you told Windows to use your interface as the default audio device and played a song file through WMP, would you hear the output from outputs 1 and 2?

There is no sound because you changed the timing master  and now you need to change the routings in your Sonar projects. to fix it, just go through your signal chain and make sure your tracks are routed to the correct bus and make sure that bus is directed to the correct main outs.

There was no sound BEFORE I changed the timing master. That was just a hail mary pass because nothing else worked either. I could just change the timing master back to what it was before without changing all that other stuff, except that that wouldn't help since that wasn't the problem to begin with.

Are you looking in your audio settings as Bob has asked to make sure all of your inputs and outputs are checked.
The timing master defaults to your audio interfaces 1/2.
Is this a different audio interface from when you used 8.5.
Did you install the latest ASIO drivers for your interface before installing Sonar?

It just seems weird that a Lynx card would screw up.
Do you still have 8.5 installed and can check if it see's it properly?

When I come here with a question, it usually isn't easy to answer since by that point I've used the usual remedies to no avail.

Yes, as I said on the fourth post.

Maybe you didn't pick this up earlier, but it was working fine yesterday with X3.

I've been using Sonar since 6.0 PE and it was working fine yesterday, for a while.

It just seems weird that a Lynx card would screw up.

I don't believe that's the problem, having spent a half hour or so speaking to their tech.

Do you still have 8.5 installed and can check if it see's it properly?

I've thought about that, but not until long after I've thought about how it shouldn't be so time consuming troubleshooting buggy software has become when I'm trying to focus on music.
Why should I go back to 8.5.3 PE which hung up for 5 minutes every time it scanned cakewalk's L2 clone?

try renaming AUD.ini
Or full re-personalization with CTRL+SHIFT when starting SONAR. This will overwrite the AUD.ini, Cakewalk.ini, TTSEQ.ini, Master.ins and all the other files in the user directory in addition to reseting some registry entries back to factory defaults.
