Don't forget to run windows update several times inc optional updates before

I totally disagree. Avoid optional unless you know exactly what you're looking for and you have system restore enabled or better yet some disk / partition imaging software like Macrium Reflect.
Otherwise only do critical.
I've seen optional ( graphics drivers ) make booting form the DVD necessary to do a system restore.

Many seemingly impossible to track down "bugs" have been cured this way
Jonesey, I've experienced some issues with clicking/stuttering audio when moving my mouse.
On the same PC, I didn't have the issue with X2 ...but I wonder if it could be one of those "Many seemingly impossible to track down "bugs"
I'm using Intel Graphics 4000 (integrated)...what do you (or anyone else) think?
Thanks very much,
Randy

Hey Randy. Same here, I don't have a separate graphics card, and I've got the 4000 standard on my CPU. No problems here, so I don't think that's the issue. Though they have done a few graphics driver updates via Windows Update over the last year or so; maybe that's worth checking.

Interesting Steve and John, my issue may actually be resolved and I didn't even realize it!
A week ago, I along with dcumpian's correspondence (in the "Gear/Hardware forum") discovered my USB connected Axiom 61 was causing problems with the USB connected Audiobox (Audiobox wouldn't start unless Axiom was turned on when booting and issue went away when connecting the Axiom via MIDI cable).
Anyway I worked for several hours today on a pretty demanding project and I don't recall having the (minor) issue.
I'll report back if I notice it again.
Thanks guys,
Randy

Pretty much all the optimal updates are to do with performance apart from stupid bing which I would avoid. C++ updates are actually pretty much essential. I have never experienced an issue with optional updates* BTW if MS thought it was for experts only they would not provide them in a consumer friendly format, MS supplies online updates generally for a good reason. Yeah I agree its probably best to avoid driver updates from MS and get them direct from the manufacturers site (*nVidia driver issues come to mind). It is rare though that MS supplies drivers nowadays. I still strongly recommend optional updates though, the benefits totally out weight the risks. We see tons of issues from people who dont connect to the internet here, much more than those who do. Yes ALWAYS backup, but don't ever be afraid of updates (we no longer live in the 90s).

Randy if you have USB issues these are all the factors involved to consider:

1) Drivers for your device are working badly. Update them. Some rare cases roll back. Or maybe you are using the wrong driver altogether (ie manufacturer supplied mouse software is often notorious for bloatware).
2) Dodgy USB cables
3) Dodgy USB hub
4) Your chip set drivers may need updating http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
5) You might need a BIOS update for your motherboard.
6) You might need a firmware update for your USB device or devices.
7) Windows update might not be up to date. MS often releases USB fixes.
8) Hardware fault or conflict.
9) In extremely rare circumstances you might be better buying a separate USB card. I've only resorted to this though when a PC fails to boot when a certain device is plugged in (which cannot be resolved otherwise). Almost certainly not your scenario.
10) Corrupted windows. (chkdsk & SFC /scan now).

Fairly broad scope here hope this helps.

But I depend on fast access to constantly varying zoom needs. It worked great for me up until the Lanes feature was implemented... Now some problems are "as intended" limitations and others are bugs... And it severely hinders my work.

It sounds like you might have experienced a version where these problems didn't exist?
So is there something in x3e that makes it worth dealing with the problems?
... and if not why are you not using the earlier version that didn't have the problems?

Hi Steve...

There are far too many good things about the current version. I would have to go back to X1 to get zoom fixed...

I can easily live with most every other issue I have with the X generation if zoom was "fixed". It "wastes" too much time and is the cause of a lot of frustration for me, but I am very happy with the results I get..

Zoom, zoom, zoom!

;-)

You're really gonna like X3 once you get it running properly. It's like X2 graduated university, took some martial arts classes and learned the art of lovemaking from a Kama Sutra master.

I agree...it's by far the best yet.  I really enjoy using it.  Never a dull moment!
