Since the CW managers decided to waste at least 10% of the screen space the zoom functions should work properly.

(The command/ribbon uses nearly 4 times the space of the 8.5.3 button bar. And is majorly cluttered: Clutter::  a large amount of things that are not arranged in a neat or orderly way : a crowded or disordered collection of things.  To display the most important buttons on the command/ribbon requires showing 3 times as many not-needed cluttering buttons.)

I apply ALL MS updates.  'Cept for Bing.

The hardware drivers are usually not created by MS. They are supplied by the manufacturers.

I ALWAYS install drivers separately.

Installed windows update video drivers on 3 client computers today. New Dell computers, Nvidea drivers. Much easier than attempting to go through the Nvidea auto scan disappointment, or attempting to find the correct version of the hardware with all the little selection windows.

Real tired of AMD/ATI,...  system scans not working on W8, after nearly 2 years.

Is this so even when the full screen mode (F11) introduced in X2 is enabled? Or did 8.5.3 have full screen mode as well? (Maybe you were using Windows' option to automatically hide the taskbar but it still displays the titlebar at the top, no?)

I was having a few issues which in the end I tracked down to problems with Arturia VST3 synths. I have a workaround now so I am happy.

I have no real issues with X3 and its the best Sonar yet.

Not to diminish the troubles that some are having as always, but overall there seems to be a serenity?

I think most are serene by default...

You're my baseline, Keni.  I don't yet have access to sufficient free time to use Sonar enough to have a valid opinion (and I'm staying far away from X2 take lanes) but I look forward to the day that you are completely happy with it.  Then I'll know the time has come for me to pour my life into it.

Thanks Paul, but you may want to check out the updates... Though I have many issues with the X incarnations of Sonar, all in all there are many benefits that have come along with it... There will never be perfection as it doesn't exist... Especially in the world of software... Maybe somewhere in the future this will change but I don't expect it to be in my lifetime! ;-)

I wish I could take the items I like in X and bring them back into 8.5.3... I would be much happier! ;-)

Hi jm...

Yes, they replaced the old screen clutter for new. Now we see less onscreen so for me I'm always dealing with a more cluttered mess trying to see what I need... And with zoom in its current state it stresses me out... Constantly...

I too am guessing we won't see another updat before the paid release. And I don't mind paying for the continued maintenance and development of Sonar regardless, but I sorely need to stop the zoom frustrations currently in effect...

The move to have touch-enabled programs has been a new set of problems which do not help me. Even on the best that I've experienced, our fingertips are far too imprecise to work with... Having a large enough screen with high enough resolution might make it easier, but then I'd be reaching too far to get things... I hope the next version takes such into consideration and maybe makes a separate setup for those with/without touch needs... I was far happier with the 8.5.3 interface myself...

Full screen mode does very little.... Far from making up for the larger widgets and extra space between them that we now have...

...and Lanes have created an even larger space consideration than before... I am often plagued with display needs that used to be far easier...

Do so many people really need a huge area to make notes about takes? I find I rarely have the time to write anything there let alone create the space problems that it has created... I'm guessing that a big reason for the minimum size of a Lane height has to do with displaying that area.... I could easily do without that and be able to show more lanes at one time on screen... Not all of us work in situations where three takes are enough! ;-)

Notes are extremely useful to me. Although notes could just 'pop up' to save space. As everything is going touch screen nowadays expect more touch friendly UIs taking further screen real estate in future. Monitors are cheap nowadays and you can buy more than one of them (nice big ones ideally). Cheers..

Hi, Keni. I remember now that you use the zoom tool. I won't have time this week but I'll check it out to see what's up.

As far as lane height restrictions... as much as I like lanes that was just poorly thought out and I have no idea why they would restrict them that way. I truly hope they fix that and give us some Hide/Show Lane options (I have a huge plan for a Take Lanes manager but won't get into that right now).

As far as the Notes section it is invaluable to me personally and I am SOOOOOO glad they did that. I make elaborate notes about specific takes now and that has become even more useful with the new comping features. I do lots of takes as I write with multiple variations. With notes I can write down the timecodes of good or bad parts on each take as I work out parts and then ignore/delete the bad stuff and focus on the good stuff. Then I flatten the comp and use that as the written part which I then practice/perfect and rerecord it.

So yeah, very useful when writing into the DAW as I do. Even when I'm feeling lazy and just want to cobble together the good parts of multiple takes I can use the same approach without having to listen to things over and over again just to find the good stuff or make notes elsewhere like notepad or on a piece of paper.

Cheers.
