Hi Everybody,

This problem just came out of nowhere. I havent added any new software for a couple of years and I use my studio 5 days a week. I'm using the Layla 24 with the latest drivers and windows 7 and my machine is an i7 with 12 gigs and I'm using Sonor 8.53. My resorce monitor says eveything is fine. CPU around 22%, ram around the same. My problem is when I go into record or I"m playing along with the tracks I'm getting about 1/4 second latency playing midi or audio.
Now whats already recorded is fine (audio and MIDI) Its just when I'm playing midi or audio in real time. In StandAlone Mode there are no issues with the audio or Midi, everythings fine. I tried adjusting the buffers for layla but like I said its also happening with Midi. Some of my old songs are working fine and if I start a new song it seems to be fine. But these three songs that Ive  been working on for the last 2 months started doing this. If I stop the song and reassign the input echo the latency goes away. But once I hit play the latency comes back. Has anyone had this problem ? And was there a solution?

Thanks for any replies,

Scott

When latency appears out of nowhere, many times it is the result of recently added plug-ins. Plug-ins such as Boost11, LP-64 EQ, LP-64 MultiBand, TS-64 Transient Shaper and Perfect Space are common sources supplied by Cakewalk. Any third party plug-in which uses a look ahead buffer will also cause PDC to kick in.

Thanks for the reply. I'll see if deleting plugs mite help.

Make sure to reset the audio engine after removing the plug-ins to recalculate the PDC.

I deleted all my plugs and that did work. So now I'll go back and fiqure out which plug was the culprit.

Thanks for your advice.

You didn't need to delete them, you just use the "bypass bin" option.
I seem to remember there's a global bypass hot key in 8.5 Ctrl /shift /Y ?
It's in the Process menu I think.

I've experienced something similar several times, and never knew what caused it. Suddenly, in the middle of a session, I start getting bad latency. For example, take 1 and 2 go fine and suddenly take three gives a 500 ms delay. In my case, toggling Audio Engine, the VST bins and Input Echo on/off has cured it every time. However, I've not found any logic in this behaviour.
