I thought from here on a simple instrument track you can automate NPRN softsynth parameters, but it is only giving me the prochannel stuff.  Any ideas?

Which instrument are you using? I just loaded up Rapture, and its automation parameters show up in the Edit filter and in the Automation Lanes. I tried it with and without inserting a simple instrument with a track folder.

Thanks for the follow up.  I figured out the issue/bug.   I inserted the Z3TA in my destination project as a Track Template.   Once you do this, you cannot see the Z3TA as an option to choose from in the automation lanes.  I had to insert a new softsynth from scratch.   This happens even in brand new projects.   
 
I will report it later officially, right now I am in the office.

It is possible to get the automation option back. Undock the synth rack and select the destination track for automation (it is just below the preset drop down).

Just moving the synth dock to its own window fixes this?   What do you mean by:  "select the destination track for automation (it is just below the preset drop down)."

When the synth rack is docked left or right the synths in the rack do not show everything. When the synth rack is floated or docked in the multi-dock more options appear. One of those options is a window in the center of each synth containing two drop downs, one for preset and one for automation track assignment.

It has nothing to do with specific parameters, the drop down assigns the synth automation parameters to a track so they show up in the edit filter and automation lanes.

Hmmm... i will have to play later.  Not sure I understand or if that is what I am looking for.  I want to draw in automation in the automation lanes.  Usually the softsynth and the Prochannel stuff shows up in the list (see first thread), but when loading a track template, the softynth params dont show.

It would help to be in front of the DAW. The feature was originally designed to allow moving the synth automation options from one track to another (for example moving the automation options to the MIDI track) but it also will fix this problem.
