Hi,
After searching and trying several softwares to run by soft synths, samplers, backtracks etc...I ended up choosing MainStage.
It is really cool, versatile and prity much the standard professionals use live.

Can we ever expect something similar from cakewalk? It would be great cos I could remain in windows only.

For live performance, I actually use Forte, by Brainspawn.  I love it, and have used it for several years now in Windows.

Yeah - they have a free demo.

There is another one, called Cantabile Lite, if memory serves.  I have it, but haven't played much in it.  That version is free, and they offer an inexpensive bigger brother.

Here is the link to Cantabile Lite: http://www.cantabilesoftware.com/

And to Brainspawn for Forte: http://brainspawn.com/

My observation is most "live" applications are being developed for the iPad.
Please don't ask Cakewalk to add yet more features.. it's over taxed as it is.

Well, either of the above 2 options are completely separate from Sonar.  They are not competitive products (to Sonar), but rather complimentary, simply allowing sophisticated live performance of songs, which  is not a strength of Sonar.

I love Sonar, and have for decades now, and for me Forte is the 'live performance' equivalent to Sonar, in terms of its power and features.
