I’m using an older version of Sonar and looking to upgrade to X3 Producer (X3-P).
I prefer to install audio software onto both my desktop and laptop so are there any issues doing this with X3-P? Note that I’ll only be using one PC at a time and they are both mine.

Historically Sonar has allowed this from my experience but on reading a review of X3-P it mentioned that 3 different serial numbers needed to be used so I’m wondering if this means X3-P can only be fully installed to one PC?
The 3 serial numbers were for Sonar itself, Melodyne and Addictive Drums.
So will I be able to activate Melodyne and Addictive Drums on both PCs?
I haven’t used Addictive Drums so can probably live without it on both PCs but Melodyne is a core feature so need that.
Thanks.

Nothing has changed WRT SONAR authorization and use policies. Both Celemony and XLN however do track authentications. Both companies allow 2 computers to be authorized to run their products. So it is possible to have full installations of X3 Producer with all bundled plug-ins on a desktop and a laptop.

Thanks scook and that’s good news.
Anybody know if you can deregister and move authorisations with Celemony and XLN?
I can see myself keeping X3 Producer for a while which would mean I might well upgrade at least one of my PCs in the interim which would require moving an install to one of the new PCs.

Yes, like most vendors that track installs, Celemony and XLN have ways to (re)move authorizations. I suggest you visit their websites and read their FAQs.

Thanks again. I can look at their Websites but wasn't sure if the licencing for the Cakewalk bundled software was different.

In a similar vein would the DSF Expansion packs for Dimension also be usable on both PC Sonar installs?

The Celemony and XLN products are the full retail versions just as if purchased separately.

DSF Expansion packs do not have an authentication process, I cannot recall the question ever coming up. I would suggest contacting them directly for a definitive answer. If I were to guess, the use policy would be the same as the synth for which they were designed.

Thanks for all the replies scook. I'll refer to the manufacturers' websites for further info. Cheers

This is why I won't purchase Sound Libraries that require the iLok or other USB stick to be inserted while sequencing. Glad that Cakewalk has the 2 PC license.
