  • Case of the Disappearing Transient Markers

I've now encountered a problem three different times with three different projects where after closing and reopening a project in Sonar 6.2.1, Audiosnap transient markers that have been used to set MIDI tempo changes by using "Set Measure/Beat at Now" no longer show up in the audio clip. In fact none of the markers in a section of music that has been retimed show up, including the ones between beats that were moved. I've tried everything to get them back, and have found that the only thing that works is to re-import the audio, which is effective, but inconvenient. A related buggy behavior is that if I raise the Threshold setting for transient levels from the default of 0 to 2% or more, the missing transients show up, but only when the track is zoomed out to display the whole clip; as soon as I try to zoom in to work on anything, all the transient markers disappear again.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Wow, there's a blast from the past. Yeah, this is still a problem in 7.02, although it occurs rarely. I logged a bug report to Cakewalk, but since I couldn't come up with a recipe to reproduce it, I don't know if they've investigated it. This thread (one of my first posts) went totally ignored until now, so it appears not to be a widely experienced problem.

Can you reproduce it consistently?

As you zoom out on a clip, transient markers start to hide. This is because they would be grouped too closely together to be usable.

Sonar is smart about how it does this, and always attempts to hide the disabled transient markers first. Is this what you are seeing?

How often do you empty your picture cache? Are you erasing ALL the files or just the .wov files? The .WTR files you probably don't wanna erase if you're getting really deep into audio snap work.

No. I'm familiar with that feature. I'm talking about all the markers disappearing completely at all zoom levels as if the show markers button were disabled. Though I did mention in one case that if I raised the threshold to some non-zero value and zoomed out, I could see them, but they disappeared again when I tried to zoom in.

Hasn't been a problem lately, so I guess I'll just have to wait for the next occurence to take some screenshots.

I've never manually emptied my picture cache.

Hey...i just noticed these disappearing transients in Sonar 8.5!  Zooming in or out has no affect neither does closing the project.  Basically the transients are ghosting on me and they blink away: all I'm doing is scrolling to the right.  I can click on some of them, but then towards the end of the clip, they disappear and aren't clickable, nor can I drag them.  This sucks!

I cleared the picture cache and that seemed to fix the problem.  Sorry everyone about the trouble.

Using 8.0.  I cleared my picture cache but the problem is persisting, but only with transient markers that I have moved or added, and only on some tracks.  Transient markers that I moved only become visible at very high zoom levels, they disappear as I zoom out.  Transient markers that I added are completely gone except for the most recent one that I added.

This problem occurs on every operating system and setup I have used over the past couple of years, as well as every version of SONAR I have used (I have tried opening the projects in the 8.52 update as well).  I can't believe this problem isn't more prevalent.  8 hours of work, wasted.
