  • How to automatically spread the PRV notation out? (p.2)

This is one of the most confusing threads I have seen in a long time.

I assume the OP must be talking about beats not notes in a measure, since there is no limit to the number of notes one can put in a measure depending on the duration of the notes, while the number of beats is fixed by the time signature. If so, then it would seem that he does not understand the basics of music notation. I am at a loss, however to figure out how he could cram say 6 quarter notes into a 4/4 measure in piano roll view. So I think we need a better explanation of the problem.

As far as midi playback is concerned, if the notes are at the correct time relationship to the tempo and to one another, then a tempo change will speed it up. But if individual notes are not at the proper duration, they need to be edited manually, since just speeding up the meter will not change the relative duration of the notes, just make each beat duration shorter or longer.

Thanks, everyone, for your insight on this issue. I'm sorry I didn't explain this clearly enough. Yes, Slabrafjasjasdfr, I am an amateur, so I'm still learning the Cakewalk software (and notation as I go along).

Very basic explanation -- I wrote too many notes into the opening measure, only, that measure was duplicated several times. So, tempo is technically too slow. I was hoping there was a way to automatically expand what was already written over twice the measures. Otherwise, just inserting a tempo change to me would be an artificial work around.

Otherwise, if there's no way to expand the notation, I could rewrite the track.

I could be wrong, but what I think the OP is saying is that he mistook eighth notes for quarter notes and wrote two measures as one. Example: / 1 2 3 4 / 1 2 3 4 / was written as / 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & /. He needs to keep the same tempo, while turning each measure into two throughout the song. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that, but perhaps someone here does.

Edit: That would require doubling the tempo and doubling the note values in order to maintain the feel and tempo of the song. It would double the tempo, but since each note would be longer it would keep the music in time with what you want.

BINGO. You nailed it on the first paragraph; that's what I was trying to do. Thank you!

I assumed the Smart Tool might be capable of spreading out all the work on that track (a la Photoshop's "resize" tool) over twice the space. I guess I'll have to rewrite the track...

Maybe the length tool would work.  I'm not in front of my recording rig right now but it's under the "Process" heading (I think).  It has an option to adjust start times and duration.

Yes, Process > Length to 200% with both start times and durations checked, and then double the project tempo to have the MIDI play back with the same absolute timing.

Or

Project > Set Measure/Beat At Now, and tell SONAR that measure X is now measure 2X-1 (e.g. 9 is now 17). This will do it in one step.

I'm wondering if there is a CAL script that can do this.

Hey! I finally got around to working on this. In a particular project, I had a few measures written in at the wrong tempo.

Katnip was able to recognize the problem I was describing, while Brundlefly provided the solution using Process -> Length to 200%. I confirmed this and got it to work! All the notation doubled in length, leaving the tempo unchanged. All I had to do was double the tempo in the Transport, and that set it to a more appropriate speed to the measures.

In addition, this process doesn't insert any unwanted events into my Event List which blatantly have "LAZY TEMPO WORKAROUND" written all over them. LOL
Thanks a bunch for that solution!
