  • Z3TA 2.1 (Windows) serious bug: waveshapers in matrix do not work in playback or rec mode

NOTE: I have been constantly editing this first post in order for it to reflect the most actual conclusions. So one can reply after reading this first post, without the need to read the rest.

This is related to Z3TA 2.1 but am posting here too since the Instruments forum is a bit lame.

Please anyone try to replicate the following in Sonar, but in other DAWs as well. I have tried this in both Sonar and Reaper. The behaviour was identical.

DESCRIPTION:
A) For factory and other INSTALLED presets:

1) Load a patch that has any waveshapers assigned in the "Destination" column of the Modulation Matrix.
2) Play the patch when the sequencer is stopped (i.e. in neither rec nor play mode) and notice the effect of these on the sound. If necessary exagerate it in order to hear it (maximize any LFO or hardware control which is controlling it).
3) Start playback or record and play the patch again. THE EFFECT IS VANISHED!!!
At this point even if you move the waveshapers with the mouse, they won't work! Even if you freeze or bounce the track, it won't include their effect!

B) If you start a preset FROM SCRATCH (i.e. after hitting Initialize) - the behaviour is normal, the above mentioned doesn't happen.

WORKAROUND:

Before you start to play along with the sequencer or record, change the patch and then change it back again. Same before you freeze/bounce.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I really need an answer.

Matrix-able waveshapers was a new feature in Z3TA 2 (which cost a lot when it came out in 2011 - never mind I use it just now) and it's not working as it should.

Can anyone please try to reproduce this?

These are the steps I used and it worked (could not repro). Please add extra steps if I'm wrong:

1) New project
2) Insert Z3TA soft synth track. Use default preset.
3) In the Mod area select under Control Column "Mod wheel" (remove any old Mod wheel settings).
4) In the destination column select OSC1 PITCH
5) Record with mod wheel
6) Play with mod wheel.

Also if you are using a keyboard please ensure it is off MIDI Omni and onto the specific MIDI channel. Maybe turn off any other hardware controller, or try another hardware controller.

Are you on Sonar X3E?

Thanks

You made the wrong choice in step 4. "OSC 1 PITCH" is not a destination among the Waveshapers. I was very specific. Please choose one from the Waveshapers and try again.

My specs are in the footer - but it's got nothing to do with Sonar version since I tried Reaper as well. Same sh-t.

Apologies for being rusty but I haven't used Z3TA for quite a while, if I am wrong here could you please change my steps so I can understand? I did read that it was reproducible in other DAWs but I was asking the question anyway.

1) Insert Z3TA soft synth track. Use default preset.
2) Select Perform tab -> Initialise Program
3) Under OSC1 add VINT SAW
4) Under OSC2 add MULTI TRIANG
5) In the Mod area select under Control Column "Mod wheel"
6) In the destination column select OSC1 -> Waveshaper - > Twist
7) Record with mod wheel
8) Play with mod wheel.

This seems to alter the Amp->time PAN which is  but I wouldn't expect that to happen myself rather a morphing of each waveform I set up unless I forgot something.

Ok, this makes me feel like an idiot.

I did the same steps like you (I also added "ON" in the "SOURCE" column and full range in the "RANGE" column).
Now it works as it should.

What I previously had tried and it did not work was the factory presets "Creamy Poly XS" and "Italo 84 (Pb) BT" (the latter with disabled arpeggiator). On these 2 it still doesn't work. God knows why...

Ah that's what I was missing! Guess we both feel like idiots :) Somehow we muddled through :)
Cheers Alex !

I can get it to work with many presets such as the default sound (Italio 84) or Hoth BD.
I think it's down to how a particular preset is set up.

perfectprint nailed it. This is it.

That's a serious bug. The matrix-able waveshapers were advertized for... :(
