I have never had any success using my FW-1884 qith anything but TI chipsets.

The FW-1884 is particular about the FW controller.
If you're configuring a new DAW, I wouldn't consider anything other than a quality TI chipset FW controller.

I can't "vouch" for the PCI-e Pyro, I have one in a box, but only as a "backup".
The PCI version worked great on my old XP rig.
My StudioCat and the FW are having this steamy affair so I'll just leave well enough alone!
Bapu can vouch for the Belkin; no-brainer!

dj,
You're using the PCI model, right?
Is there a PCI-e version?

The DM4800 and DM3200 (and their firewirecard) I have tested and found to be working with firewire 800 and a firewire 800 to 400 cable. I have worked with that setup on severall machines (all Mac) at severall places and they all work. No customer ever complained about this setup.

So maybe a firewire800 pci-e card might be a good thing...

Yeah Im using Pci My MB supports both .. I'm not sure if there's a PCI-E version , pretty sure there isn't.. At least not for the adaptec cards.. Anyhow it works perfect here, I also followed your instructions to a tee, as far as setting it up as a legacy driver with windows 7.  My advice is Anyone who decides to use the Fw should check out your resources and follow your instructions..

It seems just because I have no brain I'm still able to vouch for the Belkin.

Thanks Tom.

Muziekschuur,
So the "little" port will work, good news!
dj,
Thanks, the 4300 works well for many, I can't remember why I ended up with the Pyro.

On some older motherboards, this chipset will only support
a limited number of playback channels: 32 channels at 44.1
or 48 kHz; 16 channels at 88.2 or 96 kHz

Hi folks....

Does the above mean I can use the FW 1884  directly with any of the above  instead of a PCI or PCIe card with a TI chipset...

Thanks

Startech listed them as "approved".
for what? by whom? He also said he doesn't have an 1884.
If you want the FW to work; I'd get a TI chipset.
There's a utility on my 1884 pages that will test for the TI chipset.
Of course the card will have to be installed to test it.
