  • Can You Help Me Find a Sound Card Work-Around? (p.2)

D'OH!!! I figured it out. I'm embarrassed to say how, but man enough to admit it.

The different sound card output channels automagically created different main out tracks. The ones I need were off-screen and I just needed to scroll them over.

So I say again, D'OH!

Thanks for all the replies folks--as you were...

Yanno... I probably would have done the exact same thing. I always forget about that Mains panel but my Scarlett only has the two monitor outputs. Took me forever to figure out how to route out from 5/6 (which is what I used to use as well) on the Layla.

Glad you got it working.

The best quick fix for changing between your head phones and your speakers would be:
1) Have all your tracks / buses routed to one master bus that then goes to your main hardware out.
2) when ever you want to change just change the output of the main bus to the other hardware out.

I'm not sure I understand. X2 creates a main bus for each channel pair on the sound card automatically. You can't change the output manually--you just use a different main out if you want to use a different channel on your sound card.

X2 creates a main out for each pair of hardware outputs enabled in preferences. You create a master bus (or use the default Normal template) which points to one of the main out pairs. At least I would imagine most do not send tracks or buses other than the master bus and heaphone mixes directly to the main outputs. If all the audio resolves to a master bus changing the output of the master bus to a different main output pair would be a snap.

IOW a master bus is just a special case SONAR bus (using the Set as Default Bus option) in the bus section at the bottom of the track view and the middle section in the console view. The main outs are representation of the physical hardware outputs in the far right-hand section of the console view. Route all audio through the SONAR master bus and point the master bus to a main out.

Awesome. I must have missed that day in Sonar School. 😉 I guess my brain thinks far right means Master.

I'll give it a whirl.

Thanks
