Delusion of GrandeurBy John M. Grohol, Psy.D.
~ 1 min read

A delusion of grandeur is the fixed, false belief that one possesses superior qualities such as genius, fame, omnipotence, or wealth. It is most often a symptom of schizophrenia, but can also be a symptom found in psychotic or bipolar disorders, as well as dementia (such as Alzheimer’s).

People with a delusion of grandeur often have the conviction of having some great but unrecognized talent or insight. They may also believe they have made some important discovery that others don’t understand or appreciate.

Less commonly, the individual may have the delusion of having a special relationship with a prominent person (such as being an adviser to the President). Or the person may believe that actually are a very prominent and important person, in which case the actual person may be regarded as an imposter.

Grandiose delusions may have religious content, such as the person believes he or she has received a special message from God or another deity.

Sometimes, in popular language, this disorder may be known as “megalomania,” but is more accurately referred to as narcissistic personality disorder if it is a core component of a person’s personality and identity. In such disorders, the person has a greatly out-of-proportion sense of their own worth and value in the world. People with this issue can also sometimes have a taste for the finer, more extravagant things in life.

If this is something I really have, then it can be gotten rid of right here and now through a bit of rational reasoning.  This is because I am a very rational person and am willing to listen to the reasons others have to offer as to why I am wrong about the voices themselves not being great and not conveying those images despite the flaws (i.e. clicks and pops, etc.) in the voices.  So far, I have not heard any such reasons.  I have only heard statements such as that these voices sound nothing more than like noises.

I clearly explained how this was not the case with my yelling angry boss voice.  I said it was the voice of a fat man yelling and that is what conveyed that image of the boss.  This would be a job done better than any child or any lay person despite the flaws in that voice.  Again, even though there are no words in that voice (just gibberish) and even though there are other flaws, it is the voice itself that is something great because it conveys that image quite well.

Again, nonsense. You're not doing anything special. If you're trying to trip us up by forcing us to use "logic" in order to disprove that what you're doing is a talent, then I might as well spin that around and ask you to use logic in order to prove that what you're doing is talented.

That is my proof right there.  Do you honestly think that this heavy metal voice I did is no better than what a child or an average lay person could do?  Show me little children or average lay people (who have no talent) who can create a heavy metal voice like this:

That was a boy with a talent.  I asked you to show me children or average lay people (with no talent) who have created a heavy metal voice that is as good as mine.  If the heavy metal voice that these non-talented folks come up with is just awful compared to the heavy metal voice that I did, then this means that my voice is talented despite the fact that it is not professional and has flaws.  It just wouldn't be as talented as a professional is all.

It's not that hard.  Just show me with a youtube video just like how you did with that boy who had a talent.  I don't see how this is not worth discussing.  I am wanting to learn some things here.  I think one can really have a talent and create great works of art even if they are not a professional and their works of art do have some flaws to them.  I think that is something worth discussing.  Especially with people who are professionals such as the people here.

Mario, a wise man knows that you can't learn any thing with your mouth open. Less verbiage and more time spent listening and learning from others, then applying it, is how you grow. You don't take the advice of those here who might want to help you. Instead, you brag about how talented and
special you are. If you search the threads on this forum you won't find ANYONE who constantly praises their self or their own work. Most of the members have been accomplished musicians and composers for decades. If you truly are looking for advice and help you may have already burned that bridge with your self centered diatribes. If you are sincere about composing, then get to it and bring your songs to the forum with humility and you will learn from the constructive criticism.offered here. If you just came in to act the fool, then you have won the oscar. I, personally would like to hear a serious composition from you so those here can help you with your journey. So, get to it.........like Bugs Bunny once said, "Puddup or shuddup!"
