Except that the PURPOSE of that other thread (or fred) Steve is to put all the sewage in one cesspool so it doesn't pollute the rest of the forum.  Maybe you need to move up-wind?

I'd have to say Craig, that doesn't appear to be working - there's an awful lot drivel that does get posted outside the FSF.
 
I'm really not that bothered any more - I've finally accepted the views of those that say you should be able to post anything (within the TOS) any time, for all the reasons previously outlined.
 
What I don't get is why those who defend the incessant dross and inanity seem to want to censor Mario whats-his-name.

Because most of that "drivel" is well intentioned fun/joking around/trying to make other users kersnortle. What Mario is doing is plain old spammer/trolling and apparently, as he admitted in this thread, trying to "expose" us as "frauds". As sharke has pointed out he seems to do it on other sites as well.
 
It is mean spirited and/or specifically intended to waste the time of other users in a disengenuous manner. It's not intended to be funny or interesting. It is intended to annoy and disrupt.
 
I look at the CH like the "smoke break" room at band practice. Someplace to take a breather from the toons or whatever and goof around/chat with your compatriates. I notice that the most of the doods/doodettes that "get" the CH vibe have spent a lot of time in bands/bandrooms.

Good point.  There are two other options (both Danny approved I would bet):  Blocking or ignoring.
 
That said, I can see why there's a backlash.  A silly thread isn't trolling and no response is required, however asking for what appeared to be genuine help when the object was to debase the advisers who offer their help is a totally different story and tends to cause some desire for recourse.

Do any of us actually care about any of this? I mean *really* care about it, so that you worry about after you log off?
