  • Anyone else have Guitar Rig 5 fail - unhandled exception - loading VST 3 synth in X3e?

Just wondering.  I got an X3e crash during a load of an Arturia VST 3 synth (Oberheim SEM V) into a simple project that had Battery 3 and Guitar Rig 5.

The failure was in Guitar Rig 5.

Soooo, I will experiment some more, but am wondering if someone has both Guitar Rig 5 and an additional VST 3 synth they could load in X3e, and see what happens.  (GR 5 loaded first, then VST 3 was attempted to be inserted after).

Thanks, I am believing this to be a Native Instruments issue, but thought I would see if happens to others, or if it may be unique to my system.

OK - couple of updates.

1.  I skipped the load of Guitar Rig 5, and just had Battery 3 in, and it failed in Battery 3 this time on the insert of a VST 3 synth.  I even chose a different synth this time.

2.  I then started a new Normal project, with nothing in it, and it still failed on insert of a VST 3 synth.

So, I will keep digging.

Could not replicate, projects did not crash using the following steps:
Create new project
Add audio track
Add Guitar Rig 5 in FX bin
Insert Fabfilter Twin 2 VST3
or
same steps except inserting iZotope Iris VST3 instead of FabFilter Twin 2

still running Win7 though.

Got you - Might be an Arturia thing.  I just loaded MDrummer (different vendor), which is a VST 3, and had no problem.

I could have sworn I created a project in X3 when I bought the Arturia V Collection in January, and I loaded each synth into the project to make sure they all loaded.  I didn't save it, and it is possible I did it in X2, OR possible prior to applying X3e.  I just cannot recall.

Just tried it with a new project and got a crash.

I expect you will find it will crash on an empty project and an insert of an Arturia VST 3.

I think there is is something screwy with some of the Arturia synths. Before I went away I got a couple of Sonar crashes, the first time for ages. In both instances an Arturia synth was in the project. Then I had the same error message when one of their synths crashed in stand alone.

I am no where near my DAW for the next week so cannot investigate further. I can't even remember if I am using the VST3 versions

I looked at the 2 links in the other above post, and see that I had already confirmed earlier that there was an issue with Arturia - I must be getting old, because I have zero recollection of posting that.

Yikes!

It may well be some Sonar quirk, as I am able to load the same synths that fail in Sonar into Forte (a VST performance host from Brainspawn), and they all load there just fine.
