No problem whatsoever. Let us know what happens. I see you joined 2 days ago. We welcome you here. I don't think you will find a nicer bunch of guys who are willing to help in anyway.

BTW, your input on the midi track should be set to none if you are not using a midi controller, keyboard, control surface, etc. If you're inserting midi clips it won't matter what the input is set to.

You should be able to get it up and running pretty much automatically using the Insert Synth Assistant. Just go to the Browser (press B), click the Synths button in the browser (which shows the Synth Rack), click the plus sign button (+) then select Addictive Drums and the Insert Synth dialog should pop up.

Then you have some options. I'm assuming you want an audio track for each kitpiece in AD. Choose "All Synth Outputs = Stereo". It'll give you a stereo audio track for each kitpiece, the overheads, the Aux outputs, etc... as well as a MIDI track to put your MIDI clip into (so if you have a piece of material you want to use just drag it into that track... it's the one with the icon that looks like an old DIN style MIDI cable connector). All your outputs will be set up automatically and be routed directly to the Master bus (which you can change if you want).

Then go to the AD Window/Properties page, choose/load a kit and you should be able to play back your MIDI clip.

Doing it manually is a bit of a pain and requires quite a bit of knowledge/fiddling which is why the Insert Synth thingie is there to do it for you. Once it's set up save the project then go through all the track's Input/Output/Channel/etc things to see what goes where and you'll probably get a better idea of how to do this stuff manually if you so choose to in the future.

If I have misunderstood your predicament my apologies. BTW the Insert Synth stuff is in the manual tutorials so it's worth going through those if you haven't already but I think they use a Simple Instrument Track instead of the multi out method. There is also a video on inserting a multi out drum synth on the CakeTV section of this site that helped me immensely (but he's using Session Drummer but the set up is basically the same).

Cheers.

Ok i have managed to get something now, i have made a midi track to put my drum midi into then in the master output i put addictive drums in the FX and it is working, but still in the piano roll when selecting or editing there is no noise but the sound monitor bar goes up and down when hitting a note.

I just saw the previous post. The way I told you to set it is if you want to use just the stereo outs from AD2. He is correct in the multiout setup. I just thought it would be simpler for now for you to deal with just getting some audio out. Hope these posts have helped.

Thanks for the reply, i am getting confused by all this as i am very new to X2 as i used to use logic all the time on a mac,

You should really REALLY go through the tutorials at the start of the manual. For someone familiar with DAW stuff it'll probably take 45 minutes and get you familiar with pretty much the entire general workflow of Sonar. It is well worth the time. Also take a moment to go to the CakeTV section of this website for a bunch of helpful vids about basic processes. You'll see stuff for X1, X2, and X3 which all have some very different stuff but do have commonalities so just make sure you pay attention to which version they are using. Things like Insert Synth have remained essentially the same though.

Good luck and welcome.

Addictive drums should not be in the FX bin. When the MIDI track's meter goes up it is just telling you that it is receiving a MIDI note. Are the AUDIO tracks level meter's registering anything? If not they are not recieving an output from AD.

The MIDI track (the one with your drum clip) goes out to AD to be processed. Then AD sends the audio into the audio tracks (whose inputs should be set to accept that audio). The output of those audio tracks then go to the Master bus.

Cheers. It should help. The Insert Synth dialog is explained in further detail later in the manual too but the tuts should get you going. If you have previous DAW experience you probably just need to figure out where everything is. Sonar is pretty different in how it is set up but once you know where everything is it's pretty easy to figure out.

If you are using midi clips with drums already on them then there is another issue, probably. If the drums on that midi track are written in "general midi" format, then you will have to change the midi map. AD 1: go to the third tab labeled "beats". There is a midi map drop down about middle right. Click the drop down and select "GM" (general midi) and the drums should play fine. That's assuming the midi file is in standard general midi format. All it means is whre the note locations are for each drum on the staff. I've been writing drum tracks on staf since the early 90s and everything was general midi format then. AD lets you choose different formats for where the notes are located for different midi drum kits as well if you have a midi drum kit.

WOW! Guitarpima! I thought I was the only guy in this whole forum that writes drum tracks on the staff view! Glad to know I'm not alone! LOL!
