I just upgraded from 8.5 producer to X3 Producer...  My previous version from Sonar 8.5(.3) was Pro Audio 9....so as you can see, I don't hit every new version...

I'm just wondering if they tend to upgrade every year, and if it's typically around the same time of year (and if so, when that usually is?)

I was going to pick up the Sonar Power book for this version...but if X4 is going to come out soon, I might hold off and get the X4 book instead (meaning I'd be upgrading again shortly :) )...assuming that it would come out sometime soon after the release...

Thanks...

Normally every year, last one was 28 Sept 2013:

However Cakewalk has been taken over by Gibson, which may alter things a little, and a lot of service packs have been released recently (which could have taken up more dev time), and maybe (hopefully) another one to go. However all could change (or not). From what I understand Cakewalk have been known to skip a year(?).... In summary... Roll a dice.

Cheers....

BTW upgrades are generally reasonably cheap. If you have a good deal I suggest get it now (and in regards to the book well it will probably be quite usable for later versions).

My hunch and hope is that Cakewalk will take their time and launch something a leap ahead next time around and take us all by surprise.

Even if X4 were released tomorrow, the X4 Power! book would probably be months away.

Both very helpful responses...thanks.  I guess I'll get the book.  :)

Also remember that almost everything relating to X3 will relate to X4, and you can learn about any new X4 features whenever it appears (sometime between last week and 2026) through the online help or whatever.

People are still buying my X1 videos because most of the material is still relevant to X4.

I agree with Craig. Most of the tuition material is relevant from one version to the next. The noticeable exception being 8.5 to X1. That sort of change is unlikely to happen for a for a few years if ever..... but don't hold me to that statement.

Given that the sales have kicked in and there's been no mention of fixing existing X3 faults for some time now, I think think it's safe to say that X4 is on the way. I can only hope that we won't be expected to pay for this to get something as basic as the undo function to work properly.

As for the book, if this one is anything to go by, you won't see another one for a year.
