It used to work fine but now when I try to export the mix to MP3 I get the following error message:

"An internal error occurred while processing the mix down. The operation was unsuccessful.
Catastrophic failure"

please advise

export to wave and use an external program to make the mp3. i use sound forge, i believe that the lame encoder is free.

That is how I always did it - expoerto to wave and then sound forge to final edit and export to mp3.
But a few months ago I bought the encoder from cakewalk to be able to save time when I need to send mp3's to clients....

I think you'll need to contact tech support as this is not a common occurrence. You said you bought the encoder several months ago. Did it work at any point and stop working, or did it never work? Also, you can set up Sonar to use an external encoder like the LAME encoder while you sort this issue out.

Hi,sorry to hear this....i nave bought the encoder licence many years ago and works perfectly in all Sonar's versions.
Sounds like a os registry error, you can try to unistall the encoder, manually clean the with regedit and reinstall the encoder.Good luck

I've never been able to use Cake's encoder without problems. Works sometimes, not others, on some versions, not others. Search the forum for Aarons Sonar MP3 patch. I've been using it now since X2 and it does the job well. Simple and free. Cheers.

I have never had any issues with Cake's MP3.  Bought with Sonar X1, migrated to X2 and now X3.  All works fine...Must be something on your machine causing issues...I agree contact tech support.

Perhaps you might want to install it again, or call tech support.

I have used it for years, with no problems.

And, as noted above, until you get it resolved, you can either export to wave and convert outside of Sonar, or you could configure another encoded to work from within Sonar.

Slightly OT, I've always found it baffling that something as basic as exporting to mp3 is considered an "extra" in what is supposed to be a high end DAW. When you consider the things you can do it's pretty lame to have to jump through hoops or pay extra to be able to do this.
