I do not use the feature but just tested it in 64bit versions of X1d Producer Expanded and X2a Producer on Win7 and it works for me there too.

I'll be contacting support to see if they can help me sort it out. Thanks, Everybody!

Before you do that I suggest upgrading to X3D (I see your footer says X3B). Cheers..

Some Visual C++ corruption perhaps? Those have given me some terrible couldn't-figure-out-what-was-wrong headaches before...

I just dragged 4 .wav files from the windows explorer right in to sonar x3 without a hitch.
works perfect, I would look in to what kind of files these are.

and is it that hard to diret your browser to the dektop to drag the files in ?
I would try that first to see if there is a problem with the files first.
possibly an issue with drag/drop with 24 bit/48 files.

When I tested it in X2a on Win 7 I had to launch the program NOT as administrator to make it work. I haven't tested it in X3 yet.

X3D and drag and drop works fine here without administrator (no longer use administrator since I moved my plugins away from their default file paths).

I do wish one could drag samples into programs like SD3 from explorer

One can. Just open the mixer view, and drop the file on one of the kit piece pads/graphics.

And what happens if you DO run Sonar as administrator? That's what I meant in my post. ;)
