Anyone else bothered by this one... there are a number of issues with PRV, but I don't know if we've discussed this one yet...
 
When I disable PRV snap (requiring a mouse move and click <sigh> (another issue)), the grid reverts to the global value which I typically have set for Measures...
 
So I must manually adjust the global snap to the value set for (disabled) PRV snap and then back again.... Very painstaking, convoluted and repetitive...
 
Can we not have this changed so that we can leave the PRV snap's value still what grid-follows-snap chases?
 
I'm gonna FR it right now... Anyone else?

Hi Kenny. It sounds like you have the grid resolution set to "Follow Snap Settings". It is in the PRV menu-->View-->Grid Resolution. Change it to your preferred resolution there.

Yes I know I have grid follow snap set. I need that as well, but in the current implementation of snap(s), the option is now switching from PRV snap to Global snap when PRV snap is toggled on/off...

I must often switch between my current snap value and snap=off to fine adjust data...

I get around the issue for sure, but it's a royal pain as it can be so constant during some work... Along with PRV snap requiring a forced mouse move and click with no shortcut, it's currently very tedious doing work that used to be simple to accomplish...

I must see if the feature request is upgrade yet (has been offline) before I forget to get this item recorded...

Keni, not sure if this will help but you also have a "secondary" snap setting available with the N key shortcut.

I know of the secondary snap though I must admit I've had no luck getting used to it, but I doubt it will allow me to use it as an off toggle... Not a different snap but no snap...

Am I correct that the secondary is evoked by holding down the n key? Here it makes my system rapidly flash between snap on/off...
Am I supposed to use a modifier such as clt or alt?

Ctrl + Shift + N switches between the two snaps on a permanent basis, press and hold "N" to temporarily switch. A quick press of "N" turns snap on/off.

I didn't know the ctl-shift-n command, and I use the n by itself all the time, but the holding n for the temp change behaves rather oddly causing the on/off toggle to continually flash back and forth...?

And of course, these things only work for Global snap where the issue of this thread is the PRV snap...

Keni, another possible workround/solution would be using screensets. It does involve a one time set up though.
 
You'd need to set a variable in Preferences--->File--->Initialisation File. "IncludeSnapInScreenset=1".
 
Then set up the PRV how you want it with your preferred snap settings and grid etc, then copy that screenset to a spare screenset slot. Turn off global snap in that screenset and reset the PRV grid to preferred setting if it changes when you turn snap off.
 
Now you can switch between the two screensets using the relevant number keys. One will have your preferred settings with snap on, the other your settings with snap off.

Yes... that could be handy at times, but as the resolution(s) needed at any given time vary with the performance and piece of music itself, I'd have to keep screensets for every "popular" resolution and memorize them... I'm hoping that the Bakers can simply fix it faster! ;-)
 
I currently use screensets a lot more than I thought I would and they are indeed very handy I have a master setup of screensets which are loaded with starting new projects... I created my templates with my normal retinue of screensets...
 
This is really about the fact that there have been a number of items adjusted in relation to the snap arrangements and currently this one needs more looking at if it's as intended... when working in the PRV and with PRV snap not tied to the Global snap in any way (?), Grid Follows Snap in the PRV should always follow the PRV snap's value whether it's enabled or not... (and PRV snap should have an enable/disable shortcut! ;-))
 
I want to write this up as either a bug report or a feature request, whichever they consider it to be but at last look (a day ago I believe) the Feature Request site is down for upgrading...

There IS a shortcut to toggle the PRV snap... the shortcut is:
 
Shift-Alt-N
 
That will save some time though it's a difficult single hand toggle...
 
Now to find a way to keep grid follows snap from reverting to Global snap values when PRV snap is toggled!
 
If anyone has a link to the thread of that topic, could you please cross post? I'm sure others will be grateful!
