...I had posted this before and found it hard to believe no one has ever ran across this,---but like a dope I realized I had posted to the wrong place....duh! I have X2 and the first few takes of a recording (whenever I turn it on) are fine. But then I will arm the track and hit the master record, I get a drop-down box that give me a choice between Record (which is pre-checked), and Step record. I choose record and nothing happens, it will not enter the record mode. I end up unarming the track, resetting the audio engine, then rearming everything to try again.  Sometimes it will click into record, though usually not. I'll deal with this for maybe 10 attempts before I reboot and get maybe 2 more tracks before the same thing happens again. I have an ASUS, which I reformatted to eliminate that small C: partition,---but, same problem. Anyone have any ideas what is going on? Thanks in advance.

That's weird. IIRC in X2 those options appear when you right click the global record button. It almost sounds as if your mouse is crapping out or something and sending a right click signal instead of left... but then you'd be experiencing all sorts of weird crap.
 
But just for the sake of trouble shooting try a different mouse (preferably a wired one you know that works) to see what happens. If you are using a wireless mouse that uses batteries change them. If it is one that has a proprietary rechargeable battery it may be dying and need replacing.
 
IDK... weird problem but that is the first thing I'd check. Cheers.

Oh and an alternative in the meantime is instead of clicking on the global record button to start recording press the "R" key. That should get the "tape" rolling. Let's us know what happens.
 
BTW... that small C partition was likely your recovery stuff. Hope you made a backup of that in case you ever want to restore the system to factory defaults. Factory defaults are usually filled with bloatware and crap but that partition should effect other clean installs. It's simply the new alternative to those recovery discs that used to come with pre-configured computers. You may have already known that though.
 
aaand that just made me think of something else. If it is a laptop and you are using the touchpad those usually have specific software and drivers. If you did a clean Windows install you may have wiped out the most current drivers/software version and that's why things are going buggy. You should be able to find the appropriate drivers/software for you device on ASUS' website by punching in your model number. There are likely other drivers on there too that your system might need.

If you're getting the record mode options, you're holding the button too long. A quick click should start recording without opening options, and once you in the options, you can't start recording by selecting/reselecting an option. You have to get out and do the short click.
 
As Beepster suggested, I just use R on the PC keyboard. I almost never use the transport controls, except to get access to record options.

I actually had a weird bug in X2 when using the R key to start recording. For some reason it would occasional allow previous takes to be heard when they were supposed to be muted. It was intermittent and annoying so I had to start using the Control Bar button. That's all corrected in X3 and it was an extremely rare problem (I posted a thread and I think a couple people confirmed it).
 
Still if that does happen to OP it's still better than not being able to record at all. When it was happening I could simply stop tracking, undo the recording then hit R again and half the time it would work as normal. Annoying as all hell but still doable.
 
These were the types of little things that drove me nuts with X2. It all KIND of worked and I like the set up but the quirks and glitches were very distracting.
 
X3 is a dream to use in comparison.
