Woke up this morning shivering. It had been 86 F when I went to bed but by morning it had dropped down to a bone-chilling 68! Got up and had a coffee, then I was OK.

Well I was going to write nice things about that being beautiful and you having a wonderful time and then you went and added this.

pansy.

I am single-handedly supporting the ice cream vending industry on the island. Lots of little kids here, so when the ice cream motorcycle comes around I buy him out. I'm going broke. Yesterday it cost me $1.50 to provide the neighborhood with ice cream.

But I gotta live up to my image, as the kids think that I am Santa Claus. For real. An understandable mistake; I've got the belly and the beard and they've never seen anyone else with either.

Did it knit up properly Mike? It was a shallow pool that did it wasn't it? Krauthammer on fox news made himself a paraplegic the same way so in some kind of way I suppose you're lucky. Anyway, I hope you DO have it worked out as it must have been horrific at the time

By the time I actually got to see a specialist it was nearly 3 weeks and the MRI showed that it was starting to heal really well. By that run of events I missed having to have it pinned which is the usual treatment to ensure that the break doesn't move. I was also lucky and only had the inconvenience of the cast for 2 weeks as the x-ray I had on return to Australia didn't show a break at all. Seems this type of break is difficult to see by X-ray which is why I had a follow up MRI. So when I came home from the doctor that day I took the cast off. It had already been split to allow me to travel.
It hurt like crazy to bear weight so I didn't. I ended up with a full knee brace for about 4 months and absolutely no weight bearing.
Slower recovery because I didn't have it pinned.

Healed up fine.
While it was painful it was more inconvenient.
Didn't get to walk my daughter down the aisle.
Stuck in a hotel room for 10 days.
Everyone laughed at me
By the time I was allowed to walk unassisted it was nearly 6 months.
Made a real mess of my Ligaments but as I'm not so active they didn't bother repairing them.
Because of my underlying back problems I ended up with some more damage to spinal nerves which was detected till FTEs I became mobile again.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
Thanks for asking.

Big earthquake here...no power for 3 days, airport and highways all destroyed, had to bribe pirates to take us off the island.

OK, I made up the part about the pirates.

Truth: power was out for a day so we went to a beach resort that had a generator. It was still an ordeal,,,no ice or internet, only lattes and satellite TV. I only found out about the earthquake from the TV in the cafe.
